DESTINATION OF GHANA COCOA

Ameldorado cocoa came from Central America and to Ghana from a village called Fenandopo in the 10th. century. That was brought by an Opanyin Tetteh Quashie from the Southeast part of Ghana, West Africa. That particular cocoa, ameldorado, was susceptible to Cocoa Swollen Short Virus (CSSV) and it had breplaced by an anti F3 amazon which was almost of the same flavour as the Ameldarado. The Cocoa later spread to Ashante, Brong Ahafo, and the rainy part of forest areas and by 1911 Ghana was the leading producer in West Africa history. A position it held until 1978. Ghana is now the 3rd. major producing country after Ivory Coast and Brazil. The cocoa industry is the backbone of Ghana’s economy and it appears it will be so till the foreseeable future.
