SERVING JESUS THROUGH EVERYDAY ACTS OF LOVE

Matthew 25:40 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’”

Have you ever wondered what it truly means to serve Jesus? Many people imagine serving God as something reserved for church ministry, missionary work, or extraordinary acts of sacrifice. Yet Jesus revealed a beautiful truth that transforms the way we see everyday life.

In Matthew 25:40, He said, “Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” These words remind us that every act of genuine love and compassion reaches far beyond the person standing before us; it is received by Christ Himself.

This changes everything.

Serving Jesus is not confined to a particular place or occasion. It happens wherever His love is expressed through willing hearts. A kind word to someone who is discouraged, a listening ear for a lonely friend, a meal shared with a struggling family, or a helping hand offered without expecting anything in return; these simple acts become powerful expressions of God’s love.

The world often celebrates dramatic achievements, but heaven also treasures quiet acts of kindness that may never make headlines. A smile given to someone who feels forgotten, a message of encouragement sent at just the right time, or a visit to someone who has been isolated can become a source of hope that changes the course of a person’s day, or even their life.

Jesus calls us to see people the way He sees them. Behind every face is a story. Behind every smile may be hidden pain. Many people carry burdens that are invisible to everyone around them. They may be grieving, anxious, overwhelmed, or simply longing for someone to notice them. When we choose compassion over indifference, we become instruments of God’s comfort and grace.

The wonderful thing is that God does not ask us to do everything for everyone. He simply asks us to be available. As we walk with Him, He opens our eyes to opportunities that are already around us. The neighbour who needs encouragement, the colleague who could use a kind conversation, the elderly person who feels forgotten, or the stranger who simply needs to be treated with dignity—all provide opportunities to reflect the heart of Christ.

No act of love is insignificant in God’s Kingdom. What seems small in our eyes may have an eternal impact in someone else’s life. A few encouraging words can restore hope. A generous gift can answer someone’s desperate prayer. A moment of compassion can remind a hurting person that they have not been abandoned.

When we serve others with sincere love, we become living reflections of Jesus. His compassion flows through our words, our actions, and our attitudes. People begin to experience His goodness, not merely through what we say, but through how we treat them.

Every day presents fresh opportunities to serve Christ. We don’t have to wait for the perfect moment or extraordinary circumstances. We simply need hearts that are attentive to His leading and willing to love the people He places in our path.

Today, ask God to help you see others through His eyes. Be sensitive to someone who needs encouragement, kindness, or practical help. Your simple act of love may become the very reminder someone needs that they are seen, deeply valued, and unconditionally loved by God.

As we faithfully serve people in everyday moments, we are also honouring the One who first loved us. And in doing so, we bring His light into a world that desperately needs His hope. Amen.
