2 Corinthians 10:5 – “We take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.” — (NIV)
We live in a world full of noise, internal and external. There’s a constant stream of messages about who we are, what we’re worth, and whether we’re enough. Some of these messages come from others, some from culture, and many from within us. Over time, they begin to shape how we perceive God, ourselves, and the world. But what if much of what we believe… isn’t true?
That’s why holding on to truth (real truth) is essential. It’s not just a good habit; it’s a spiritual lifeline. In a world filled with deception, doubt, and distortion, the truth of God’s Word grounds us. It centers us. It renews us.
THE POWER OF KNOWING WHAT’S TRUE
Scripture isn’t just a book of good advice or ancient history—it’s alive. It breathes with purpose and power. When we read it, meditate on it, and let it dwell in our hearts, it becomes a weapon against the lies that try to derail us.
Lies come in many forms. Some whisper, “You’re not good enough.” Others shout, “God’s forgotten about you.” And often, they disguise themselves so well that we start believing them without realizing it. But the moment we start exchanging those lies for truth, everything changes.
This isn’t just positive thinking. It’s spiritual warfare. As Paul writes in 2 Corinthians 10:5, we are called to take every thought captive and make it obedient to Christ. That means we don’t just listen to our thoughts (we challenge them). We test them against what God says. And when the two don’t line up? We choose truth.
EXPOSING THE LIES
Here are a few of the common lies many of us face—and the life-giving truths that silence them:
LIE: I’m a failure. I can’t get anything right.
TRUTH: I may stumble, but I am not defined by failure. I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.
(Philippians 4:13)
LIE: If God really cared, I wouldn’t be going through this.
TRUTH: God is with me in the struggle. He’s working all things together for good. His grace is more than enough, and His power shows up strongest in my weakness.
(Romans 8:28, 2 Corinthians 12:9)
Lie: I’ll never change. This is just who I am.
TRUTH: In Christ, I am a new creation. The old is gone, and the new has come.
(2 Corinthians 5:17)
These aren’t just words—they’re lifelines. They’re promises from the One who sees you, knows you, and loves you fully.
REWRITING THE NARRATIVE
When you know the truth, you don’t have to be a prisoner to old patterns of thinking. You’re free to live with purpose, clarity, and boldness. But that freedom doesn’t happen by accident—it takes practice. It takes awareness. It takes choosing to bring your thoughts into the light and surrender them to God.
Start by identifying the lies you’ve believed. What thoughts have kept you stuck? What narratives have shaped how you see yourself or your future?
Then, replace those lies with truth. Write down Scriptures that speak directly to your battles. Say them out loud. Memorize them. Let them sink deep into your heart. This isn’t about denying reality—it’s about redefining it in the light of God’s Word.
STEP INTO THE FREEDOM ALREADY YOURS
The truth is not just something you read—it’s something you live. Jesus didn’t just offer comfort for our minds; He gave us the power to walk in victory. And every time you reject a lie and choose the truth instead, you’re stepping further into the freedom He’s already won for you.
You’re not powerless. You’re not alone. You are fully equipped with everything you need to stand firm and walk strong.
So, hold on to what is true. Let God’s Word be your anchor, your shield, and your song. Let it remind you of who He is, and who you are because of Him.
You are more than a conqueror. You are deeply loved. And the truth is—you are free. Amen.
