JESUS IS YOUR LAWYER

THE ADVOCATE WHO NEVER LOSES A CASE

1 John 2:1 – “We have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.” – (NIV)

Have you ever had one of those days when you feel unworthy of God’s love, when your thoughts spiral downward, and your actions seem far from anything Christlike? Perhaps you’ve stumbled again, said something you regret, or felt overwhelmed by shame and self-disappointment. On days like those, remember this powerful truth: you have a lawyer—an advocate—standing in your defence before God. His name is Jesus Christ.

The apostle John reminds us, “If anyone sins, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.” (1 John 2:1 NIV). In our moments of failure, when guilt threatens to crush us and the accuser points a condemning finger, Jesus steps forward. He doesn’t excuse sin, but He declares, “Father, I’ve paid for this one. They belong to me. They are covered by My blood and clothed in My righteousness.”

This divine advocacy isn’t a passive reassurance; it’s an active, ongoing intercession. Hebrews 7:25 (NLT) says, “He lives forever to intercede with God on [our] behalf.” Imagine the courtroom of heaven: the Law presents the case against us, rightly pointing out our sin. But before the sentence can be declared, Jesus stands as our defence. Not with weak excuses, but with the undeniable evidence of the cross. The verdict? Forgiven. Covered. Justified.

This powerful image has roots in the Old Testament. In the tabernacle, the Ark of the Covenant held the tablets of the broken law, representing the guilt of the people. But over the ark was the mercy seat, where the blood of a spotless lamb was poured. God didn’t see the broken law directly; He saw it through the blood. The same is true for us today: God sees our sin through the blood of Jesus.

So why does God continue to love you, accept you, and bless you even when you fall short? It’s not because of your performance, it’s because Jesus is your lawyer. And He never loses a case.

Let’s consider what makes Him the perfect advocate:

1. HE’S FULLY QUALIFIED

God Himself declared at Jesus’ baptism, “This is my dearly loved Son, who brings me great joy” (Matthew 3:17 NLT). Jesus didn’t just represent you in court—He satisfied the righteous requirements of the law on your behalf.

2. HE HAS A PERFECT RECORD

Hebrews 7:25 (TLB) says, “He is able to save completely all who come to God through him.” There is no sin too dark, no past too broken, and no person too far gone. His track record? Flawless.

3. HIS SERVICES ARE FREE

You don’t need to earn this legal representation. There’s no retainer fee, no hidden cost. Isaiah 55:1 (NKJV) declares, “Come… without money and without price.” Grace has already covered the bill.

Because of Jesus, you can approach God’s throne: not with trembling fear, but with bold confidence. Hebrews 4:16 (NIV) invites us to “approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.” You’re not alone in the courtroom.

Jesus is not only your defence lawyer, but He is also your Redeemer, your Mediator, and your everlasting Hope. So the next time guilt whispers lies in your ear or shame tries to chain you down, silence them with the truth: Jesus is your lawyer, and your case is already won. Amen.
