NOT SEEN HIM, YET WE LOVE HIM

1 Peter 1:8–9 “Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory…Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls”.

Faith often defies human logic. It stretches beyond what we can see, touch, or fully explain. At first glance, the Christian life can seem puzzling; how can we deeply love and trust someone we have never physically encountered? How can our lives be shaped by a Saviour we have not seen with our own eyes?

Yet this is the beautiful mystery of faith.

The apostle Peter captures it perfectly:

though we have not seen Jesus, we love Him. Though we do not see Him now, we believe in Him, and this belief fills us with a joy that words can hardly express. It is not a shallow happiness dependent on circumstances, but a deep, abiding joy rooted in the assurance of salvation.

To many, this kind of faith appears unreasonable. It challenges the way the world measures truth, which often relies on evidence that can be observed or proven. But faith operates differently: it perceives what the natural eye cannot see and embraces a reality that transcends the visible.

Consider how we honour the legacy of Thomas Edison. Most of us have never seen him, yet every time a room is lit, we benefit from his work. His invention continues to impact lives generations later. In the same way, yet far greater, Jesus Christ has transformed human lives across time and space. His work is not limited to physical light but extends into the depths of the human soul.

Jesus brings light where there was once darkness. He restores hope where there was despair. He gives meaning, purpose, and eternal life to all who believe. Even without seeing Him physically, we experience the reality of His presence: through peace in difficult moments, strength in weakness, and the quiet assurance that we are never alone.

This is not blind faith; it is a living, active trust built on the ongoing work of Christ in our lives. Every answered prayer, every moment of comfort, and every inner transformation becomes a testimony of His presence.

There may be seasons when your faith feels dry: when God seems distant and silent. In those moments, it is easy to question whether He is truly nearby. But faith reminds us that His presence is not dependent on our feelings. He is with us, even when He seems hidden.

Loving Jesus without seeing Him is not a weakness; it is a mark of genuine faith. It is a relationship rooted in trust, sustained by grace, and rewarded with a joy that surpasses understanding. Blessed indeed are those who have not seen and yet believe.
Amen.
