Jude 1:20 “But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost”
LIFE IS MORE THAN WHAT WE SEE
Not long ago, I was seated in a commercial bus when an unusual incident unfolded. A woman signalled to get off at her stop, but the driver intentionally sped past it. Frustrated, she eventually alighted further down the road and warned the driver, saying, “Not everyone can be joked with.” She muttered a few words and walked away. Moments later, the bus stalled completely.
The driver panicked and shouted, “That woman is a witch!”
The scene was dramatic, almost comical, but it revealed something deeply true: the world we live in is not only physical; it is profoundly spiritual. Many people instinctively understand this reality, even if they interpret it through fear or superstition.
Now, imagine someone walking up to you and boldly claiming they possess the power to harm you spiritually. How would you respond? Fear? Panic? Anxiety?
Sadly, many believers feel intimidated in such moments: not because the threat is real, but because their spiritual confidence is underdeveloped. When believers do not grow in spiritual understanding and intimacy with God, they become vulnerable to fear rather than grounded in faith.
SPIRITUAL AUTHORITY COMES FROM SPIRITUAL GROWTH
Jude’s exhortation is both simple and profound: build yourself up. Spiritual strength is not accidental: It is cultivated. Prayer, especially prayer inspired and guided by the Spirit of God, is the means by which believers are fortified from within.
A believer who runs from spiritual threats is like a homeowner fleeing their house because they saw a small lizard on the wall. The problem is not the size of the threat: it is a lack of awareness of authority.
Our confidence in life flows from the spiritual realm. When we are rooted in Christ, fear loses its voice, intimidation loses its grip, and confusion gives way to clarity. A wise believer strengthens their inner life before challenges ever appear.
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU GROW SPIRITUALLY
Spiritual growth never remains isolated: it spills into every area of life. When your inner life is strengthened, your decisions become wiser, your emotions more stable, your relationships healthier, and your perspective clearer.
It is deeply concerning when prayer and intercession are treated as optional in Christian spaces, or when believers feel comfortable going days—or weeks—without meaningful personal prayer. Prayer is not a ritual to check off; it is the lifeline of a relationship with God.
A faith that is not nurtured will weaken. But a faith that is continually built through prayer becomes resilient, confident, and joyful.
PRAY INTO YOUR LIFE
To “pray into your life” means intentionally inviting God’s presence, wisdom, and power into every dimension of your existence. It means praying not just when problems arise, but as a lifestyle of communion.
Pray to know God more intimately.
Pray for a deeper understanding of His Word.
Pray for a heart that longs for fellowship with Him.
Pray for increased faith and spiritual clarity.
Pray with confidence, knowing you are loved and secure in Christ.
Spiritual growth is not passive: it is pursued. And prayer is the pathway.
Child of God, your prayer life is too valuable to neglect. Please treat it with reverence, consistency, and joy. As you build your faith, you will discover that fear loses its power and that spiritual confidence becomes your natural posture.
A PRAYER
Heavenly Father, I ask for the grace to build myself up in faith. Grant me spiritual insight into Your Word, a deep passion for prayer, and an increase in faith. Teach me to live with confidence rooted in my identity as Your child. May my life reflect Your power, peace, and presence. And may my loved ones come to know the saving grace of Jesus Christ.
Amen.
