Luke 18:1 – “Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up.”
“Don’t give up.” Few phrases strike the human heart as deeply as these words. They are the encouragement whispered to a weary runner at the twenty-mile mark, the gentle reminder to a parent awake at 3 a.m. with a crying child, and the quiet assurance to anyone carrying burdens too heavy for one pair of shoulders.
It takes courage to start something new—a job, a relationship, a journey of faith—but often it takes even greater courage to continue when we feel stuck in the middle, unsure whether we’ll ever see the finish line.
In Luke 18, Jesus tells the parable of the persistent widow. This woman had no power, no influence, and no voice in society, yet she refused to give up. She kept returning to the judge with her plea until justice was served. At first glance, her persistence may look like stubbornness, but Jesus framed it as faith. Through her story, He teaches us the importance of praying persistently—not because God is reluctant to listen, but because prayer is the lifeline that connects us to His heart.
WHY PERSISTENCE MATTERS

When you keep bringing your needs to Him, you are saying, “God, I know You are my only hope. I trust You even when I don’t see the answer yet.”

Some prayers are answered in a moment. Others take weeks, months, or years. Some we may not see fulfilled in our lifetime, yet they ripple forward, impacting generations to come. Persistent prayer is not about manipulating God into action—it’s about aligning our hearts with His will, even in the waiting.
The question Jesus leaves us with in Luke 18 is sobering: “When the Son of Man comes, will He find faith on the earth?” In other words, will He find us still trusting, still praying, and holding on?

Pour out your heart again. And tomorrow—do it once more. Because in God’s presence, no word is wasted, no tear is ignored, and no prayer goes unheard. Amen.
