1 Corinthians 13:3 – “If I give away everything I own, and if I give over my body in order to boast, but do not have love, I receive no benefit.”
Love is a word that naturally produces joy and smiles when being talked about. Unfortunately, our generation, media, and society today have projected that love is incomplete without engagement in sexual affairs. ‘If you love me, give your body to me”, has become the slogan of many young, unmarried people who enter courtship.
However, God wants us to get the records straight that, giving your body out for sex is not necessarily an
expression of love. Paul the Apostle had to explain to the church that their spiritual gifts were to be exercised in the spirit of love. The Striking statement he made however was that one could literally give up his or her body to a person without any sense of love.
Beloved, the kind of love God wants us to demonstrate is Agape, that is, His kind of love. On countless occasions, some young guys in courtship demand that the lady offers her body as evidence of her love. The moment she gives in, most often, that begins the breakup of that relationship. After all, he has had it, what else is left to patiently wait and pay the bride price for?
A woman can offer her body to a man as a trap to destroy that man, yet he will be calling that process ‘lovemaking’. If sex was the evidence of genuine love, prostitutes would have been the best people to express love.
I want to admonish you today. If you are single, enjoy those moments of singlehood and honor God with your body which is His temple. If you are in courtship, know that the real evidence of love is self-control. True love is patient, kind, and protective but if you engage in Premarital sex, you break the security walls of your life and family and make satan a legal member of your family. If you are married, stay faithful. Do not go offering your body to other people in the name of love. Offering your body for sexually immoral activities as evidence of love is actually wickedness and destroys trust. Be not be deceived or fall for this unfortunate generational misconception of love. God help us all.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, please forgive me for the times I sinned against You. Please help me say ‘no’ to ungodliness in my singleness, courtship, and marriage so that I will honor You with my body, all the days of my life.
In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
Question for Meditation
Is God pleased with what I do with my body?
