LIVING A LIFE ON MISSION: WHAT ARE YOU SPENDING YOUR LIFE ON?
Acts 20:24 – “However, I consider my life worth nothing to me; my only aim is to finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me—the task of testifying to the good news of God’s grace.” — (NIV)
We all spend our lives on something.
For some, it’s about building a career or securing financial stability. For others, it’s about nurturing a family or achieving a personal dream. These pursuits are not inherently wrong. They reflect some of the deepest human desires: belonging, purpose, and meaning.
However, the question remains: Are these the things for which we were ultimately made?
Are we living for what matters most?
In Acts 20:24, we get a glimpse into the heart of Paul—a man whose life was radically transformed by the grace of Jesus Christ. Before encountering Christ, Paul’s life was marked by zeal, but for the wrong cause. After that divine encounter, his entire trajectory shifted. His priorities realigned. His deepest longing became clear: to spend his life testifying to the good news of God’s grace.
He was no longer driven by self-preservation or human accolades. Everything else: comfort, recognition, even his own safety, became secondary to the mission of sharing Christ’s love.
“I consider my life worth nothing to me…”
This isn’t a statement of despair; it’s a declaration of purpose.
Paul’s words challenge us to consider where we place our highest value. In a culture that constantly urges us to chase after more: more success, more influence, more wealth, Paul reminds us that our lives are not ultimately about what we build, collect, or even accomplish for ourselves.
Our lives are meant to point to Someone greater.
GOD’S MISSION, YOUR EVERYDAY LIFE
Living on mission for God doesn’t mean quitting your job or abandoning your family. The beauty of the mission of God is that it meets us in the everyday. It transforms ordinary moments into divine opportunities.
Raising a family can be a mission field when we intentionally nurture faith in our children.
A workplace becomes holy ground when we work with integrity and share our hope with coworkers.
Friendships can become bridges to healing and salvation when we listen, encourage, and speak truth in love.
A QUESTION OF FOCUS
Take a moment to reflect:
Where are you spending your life?
What occupies your time, energy, and heart?
The mission of God is not about guilt or obligation. It’s about being so captivated by the grace of Jesus that we cannot help but share it. It’s about living with eternity in view and making our days count for something more than ourselves.
Like Paul, you have a race to run. You have a unique task, your own part to play in God’s grand story. It may not make headlines, but if it’s done in faith and obedience, it echoes in eternity.
Look at your daily routines through a new lens—every conversation, every challenge, every moment is a potential doorway for grace.
And most of all, stay connected to the One who sends you. Only by staying close to Jesus can we run this race well.
Paul didn’t live an easy life, but he lived a meaningful one. And at the end of it all, he knew he had spent it on what truly mattered.
So, what about you?
LIVING WITH PURPOSE:
What are you spending your life on? God’s mission isn’t reserved for pastors or missionaries. It’s for all of us, wherever we are, with whatever we’ve been given. If you’ve never thought of your life as a mission, today is a good day to begin. Ask God to open your eyes to the people around you who need hope. Amen.
