Psalm 18:31–33 (v:31) “For who is God save the LORD? or who is a rock save our God?”
There comes a moment in every believer’s journey when the heart whispers a simple yet profound question: Who is God besides the Lord? Not as a theological debate, but as a personal reflection: an honest look at the One we lean on when life becomes uncertain. Psalm 18 gives us David’s answer, and in his words, we hear the voice of a man who has discovered the unshakable strength and tender faithfulness of God.
David’s life was filled with battles, dangers, and seasons of deep vulnerability. Yet in all of it, he recognised something unmistakable: there is no rock, no refuge, no foundation as trustworthy as God Himself. He understood that divine strength is not merely a spiritual concept; it is the supernatural support that steadies our steps, lifts our heads, and carries us through what we could never face alone.
When David asked, “Who is God but the Lord?” he wasn’t posing a general question to the universe. He was speaking to his own soul, reminding himself of the One who had sustained him through every valley and lifted him to every mountain. His victories were not the result of luck, human strategy, or natural ability; they were the fruit of a God who equips, strengthens, steadies, and secures.
And now the question comes to us: What is our testimony? Who is truly the Lord of our lives? Where do we run when life shakes us? Whose voice shapes our decisions, identity, and direction? Each of us, sooner or later, discovers that we are building our lives on something, whether fragile or firm. And the truth is simple: everything built on people, possessions, or personal strength eventually fails. But everything built on God endures.
My own walk with God has not been long, yet it has been deeply revealing. Even in the short distance I’ve travelled with Him, I have seen His mercy in my weakness, His kindness in my confusion, and His faithfulness in moments when I didn’t know what to do next. I have learned that without His involvement (even for a day), life becomes empty, directionless, and unstable. But with Him, even the hardest moments carry purpose, and even the storms become pathways to higher ground.
God proves Himself a rock: not just by giving stability, but by being stability. He lifts us to places we never imagined, strengthens us beyond our natural limits, and gives us the courage to walk securely through challenges that once frightened us. His strength is not distant; it is intimately present. His help is not occasional; it is constant. And His love is not conditional; it is steadfast.
So, I encourage you: rest fully on God. Trust Him not only with your words but with your decisions, desires, and direction. It’s possible to know Scripture well and still resist surrender. But true rest, true peace, and true elevation come when we allow God to be more than an idea—when we allow Him to be Lord. Amen.
Let today be a reminder that God is the One who equips you, strengthens you, and lifts you higher. He is the only Rock that never shifts, never cracks, and never fails.
