NKJV, Philippians 2:20-21 – “For I have no man likeminded, who will naturally care for your state. For all seek their own, not the things which are Jesus Christ’s.”
CEV, Philippians 2:20-21 – “I don’t have anyone else who cares about you as much as he does. The others think only about what interests them and not about what concerns Christ Jesus.”
Today, our Heavenly Father wants us to pause and assess ourselves; whether or not we are too busy to love and serve Him. Many a time, we give so many excuses when God asks for our attention or service.
In Paul’s epistle to the Philippians, he gave a good testimony about the young man Timothy. Timothy had deep concern for God and His children. Unlike many others who were busy about their own concerns, Timothy spent time loving the Lord Jesus Christ.
I really wonder whether Timothy would have survived in this day and age of ours. In our days, one is likely to wake up already frustrated. The world seems to run so fast that we have things like quick tea, quick cash, fast food etc. As a result, God has to now suffer from ‘quick worship’.
Many of us seem so busy to the extent that we do not even take good care of ourselves. As for God, we have turned Him into a ‘Red Cross Agent’ who is needed during emergency hours. No wonder we work so hard but have no joy or satisfaction in life.
God is not asking us to stop every job or activity we are doing and sit in church 24/7. What He is asking of us is to honour Him with the first moments of our day, hear what He has for us and involve Him in all we do throughout our days.
When we mistreat people who we think they aren’t important as we are, God doesn’t like that attitude. When you don’t have a Religious attitude you won’t enjoy what God has for you, because you are too busy looking down on your nose at people who are not quite like you
Don’t be too busy working for God that you don’t even have time to do what He Tells you to do: eg as a church elder, as an usher in church.
I want to inspire us all; loving Jesus is not just a matter of words but of actions. Devote some time, energy and money to spreading the Gospel. From experience, I have learnt that time spent with God is time well invested; it saves us from a wasted life. May God grant us victory over such a busy-programmed world. Amen.
PRAYER
Heavenly Father, I am sorry for being too busy to give you my attention sometimes. Grant me Grace to overcome the pressures of life and help me to use my time wisely. In Jesus’ Name I pray. Amen.
QUESTION FOR MEDITATION
What keeps me so busy that I do not give ample attention to God?
