NKJV, 1 Thessalonians 5:2-3 – “For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night. For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.”
CEV, 1 Thessalonians 5:2-3 – “You surely know that the Lord’s return[a] will be as a thief coming at night. People will think they are safe and secure. But destruction will suddenly strike them like the pains of a woman about to give birth. And they won’t escape.”
Today, God wants us to always remember that a day is coming when this world will be brought to an unexpected end. The Day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night.
Apostle Paul consistently reminded the Church of the Day of the Lord. He used two analogies to describe the day of the Lord; ‘’the coming of a thief at midnight’, and ‘the day a woman delivers her child’.
Imagine a thief attacking your house tonight. God forbid but then, if it is to happen, how prepared are you and your family? Can your security system stop the thieves? We are likely to be caught asleep and unaware. God is saying that the day of the Lord will come as such and this time, it’s either Heaven or hell.
Though it takes averagely nine months for a pregnant woman to deliver, none of us can really predict the exact day she will go through travail and give birth. A visit to the labour ward reveals that a woman in labour doesn’t care about anything in the world. Nothing else really matters; so shall it be on the Lord’s Day.
It is better to prepare for Christ’s Second Coming while on earth than for us to be caught unaware when He comes. Even if He doesn’t come in our time, we will surely die, go and await this same Day of the Lord. Even our day of death is also unknown, yet blessed is the one who dies saved.
My dear friend, Jesus Christ is coming again. He is not coming to die again for our sins but rather to judge us on what we have made out of His sacrifice on the cross for us. This is not a myth. If He comes today, what account of your life are you going to give?
I want us to take a solemn and sincere reflection of our lives. Ahead of us lies the toughest examination we will ever go through. Take Jesus seriously and live a Christ-like life because Jesus is coming again. Prepare for the Day of the Lord.
PRAYER
Heavenly Father, thank You for consistently reminding us of Christ’s Second Coming. Please grant me the Grace to stand ready and prepared when He comes. Help us LORD, in Jesus’ Name, Amen.
