Psalms 57:11 “Be thou exalted, O God, above the heavens: let thy glory be above all the earth.”
When life feels heavy, uncertain, or beyond our control, one truth remains unshaken: God is worthy to be exalted above everything we see, feel, or fear.
The psalmist’s cry:
“Be Thou exalted, O God, above the heavens; and Thy glory above all the earth”
is more than poetic worship. It is a posture of trust, a declaration that places God above our circumstances and invites His power into the centre of our lives.
David understood this deeply. His life was filled with battles, betrayals, victories, and humbling moments, yet he never lost sight of who God was. He discovered a powerful pattern: when God is exalted, His people experience deliverance. Not because they are strong, but because the One they lift up lifts them up in return.
David experienced God as a faithful defender, a reliable guide, and an unfailing source of strength. He knew that when God speaks, His word is final: no opposition, no enemy, and no obstacle can overturn what God has already declared. This confidence shaped the way he prayed, worshipped, and faced the challenges before him.
AND THIS TRUTH IS JUST AS REAL FOR US TODAY.
God has not changed. He is still the God who walks with His people, strengthens their hearts, and brings victory where defeat once seemed inevitable. Though our battles may look different from David’s (financial hardship, health struggles, emotional burdens, relational tensions, or spiritual resistance), the same God who empowered David empowers us today.
Many people live each day trying to hold everything together by their own strength. But David reminds us of a better way: lift God higher. Exalt Him above your fears, above the deadlines, above the diagnosis, above the stress, above the uncertainty. When God is exalted, our hearts are steadied, our hope is renewed, and our faith is strengthened.
SO, WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO EXALT GOD IN EVERYDAY LIFE?
It means choosing praise over panic.
It means letting gratitude shape your attitude.
It means living in a way that reflects God’s goodness through kindness, generosity, patience, integrity, and compassion.
It means allowing your life to give someone else a reason to thank God.
When God is exalted in your home, peace increases.
When God is exalted in your decisions, clarity comes.
When God is exalted in your battles, strength rises.
When God is exalted in your heart, fear loses its grip.
David faced fierce enemies: Moab, Edom, Philistia-nations that represented intimidation and resistance. Yet he could speak boldly because he knew God was with him. He saw each challenge through the lens of God’s greatness, not through the limitations of human strength. And that perspective changed everything.
Your battles may be pressing, but they are not permanent. That debt that seems impossible can be cleared. That illness can be healed. That anxiety can break. That family situation can turn around. Those spiritual attacks can be silenced. When God is exalted, the impossible becomes possible, and the overwhelming becomes conquerable.
The help of people may be limited, but God’s help is limitless. His strength is not seasonal. His power is not partial. His love is not uncertain. Lift Him up, honour Him, put Him first, and watch how He works on your behalf.
May your life be a daily song of “Be Thou exalted,” and may your testimony become living proof that God still saves, still strengthens, still delivers, and still shows Himself mighty.
Amen.
