Isaiah 10:12 “Therefore it will happen that when the Lord has performed his whole work on Mount Zion and on Jerusalem, I will punish the fruit of the willful proud heart of the king of Assyria, and the insolence of his arrogant looks.”
ARE YOU ARROGANT?
Pride rarely announces itself. It often hides beneath confidence, success, knowledge, influence, or achievement. Yet when pride takes root in the heart, it eventually reveals itself in arrogance; an attitude that belittles others, rejects correction, and forgets that every blessing ultimately comes from God.
Isaiah 10:12 presents a powerful reminder of this truth. God had allowed the king of Assyria to accomplish His purposes, but instead of recognising that he was merely an instrument in God’s hands, he became consumed with self-importance. His heart swelled with pride, and his actions reflected arrogance. When God’s purpose had been fulfilled, He held the king accountable for his proud heart and haughty spirit.
This passage reminds us that God is not only concerned with what we accomplish but also with the condition of our hearts while we accomplish it. Success without humility can quietly become a spiritual trap.
Arrogance is often the visible fruit of hidden pride. It shows itself in the way we speak, treat people, and respond to those who disagree with us. An arrogant person may look down on others, dismiss the struggles of the vulnerable, or believe that their opinions, needs, and desires are more important than everyone else’s. Such an attitude creates barriers instead of building relationships and replaces compassion with contempt.
In contrast, humility reflects the heart of Christ. Humility does not mean thinking less of yourself; it means thinking of yourself rightly before God and treating others with dignity, kindness, and respect. A humble person understands that every talent, opportunity, and achievement is a gift entrusted by God. Rather than seeking superiority, they seek to serve.
The encouraging news is that God delights in transforming hearts. No one is beyond His grace. If the Holy Spirit reveals even a trace of pride within us, we can respond with repentance and invite God to reshape our character. As we surrender our hearts to Him, He replaces self-exaltation with gratitude, gentleness, and genuine love for others.
It is wise to examine ourselves regularly. Are we quick to listen or quick to dominate conversations? Do we celebrate the success of others or secretly resent it? Do we treat every person with equal respect, regardless of their background, position, or resources? Honest reflection allows God to refine us and produce Christlike character within us.
Scripture consistently teaches that God honours humility and opposes pride. This is not because He wants to diminish us but because humility keeps us close to Him. It reminds us that our strength, wisdom, and future rest securely in His hands.
Today, ask God to search your heart. Where pride has taken root, let His grace uproot it. Choose humility over self-importance, compassion over criticism, and gratitude over entitlement. As you honour God and value those around you, your life will reflect the beauty of Christ, whose humility changed the world.
