Matthew 9:37–38 “Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few…Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.”
Have you ever wondered why God placed certain people in your life? Your family members, coworkers, neighbours, friends, and even casual acquaintances are not there by accident. Each relationship is an opportunity to reflect the love of Christ and share the hope that has transformed your own life.
When Jesus spoke to His disciples about the harvest, He used an illustration they understood well. Farmers knew that when crops became ripe, they had to be gathered quickly. A harvest left unattended could be lost. In the same way, Jesus saw people who were searching, hurting, questioning, and longing for hope. He described them as a plentiful harvest waiting to be gathered.
His concern was not the size of the harvest but the shortage of workers. There were many people ready to hear about God’s love, but too few willing to engage them with the message of Jesus.
That reality remains true today. All around us are people carrying burdens, facing uncertainty, and searching for meaning. Many may be more open to spiritual conversations than we realise. Often, they are simply waiting for someone to listen, care, and point them toward the hope found in Christ.
Sharing the gospel does not require having all the answers or delivering a perfect presentation. It begins with a willing heart. Sometimes it looks like listening to someone’s story, offering encouragement, praying for a friend, or sharing how Jesus has made a difference in your own life. God works through ordinary conversations and simple acts of faithfulness.
Jesus first instructed His disciples to pray. Before we speak to people about God, we speak to God about people. As we pray, He opens our eyes to opportunities around us and gives us the courage to step into them. The same Spirit who empowers us to follow Jesus also empowers us to share Him with others.
Today, consider one person God may be placing on your heart. Pray for them. Look for an opportunity to start a meaningful conversation. Be available, be genuine, and trust God with the results. You may discover that the harvest is closer than you think. Jesus’ invitation is still urgent today. The harvest is plentiful, and every believer has the privilege of participating in God’s work of bringing hope, healing, and new life to others.
Amen.
