Mark 5:36 “As soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, He said to the ruler of the synagogue, ‘Do not be afraid; only believe.’
Fear has a way of whispering lies that can keep us from stepping into the life God has prepared for us. Left unchecked, it steals our confidence, weakens our resolve, and convinces us that failure is inevitable before we’ve even taken the first step. But in the middle of uncertainty, Jesus speaks words that still carry life today: “Do not be afraid; only believe.”
When Jairus received the devastating news that his daughter had died, fear could easily have overwhelmed his heart. Yet Jesus immediately redirected his attention from the painful report to the greater reality of God’s power. His message was simple but profound: don’t let fear have the final word; let faith lead you instead.
Many of us face similar moments. We dream of starting a business, pursuing a new career, writing a book, serving in ministry, or taking a bold step of faith. Yet our minds quickly become crowded with questions: What if I fail? What if things don’t work out? What if I lose everything I’ve invested? Fear magnifies uncertainty until it appears greater than God’s promises.
But what if we began asking different questions?
What if God opens the right door? What if this opportunity becomes a blessing beyond your imagination? What if the challenge you’re facing becomes the testimony that strengthens someone else’s faith? What if God’s grace carries you farther than your own abilities ever could?
Faith does not ignore reality, nor does it pretend challenges don’t exist. Instead, faith chooses to trust that God is present, powerful, and faithful regardless of the circumstances. It looks beyond today’s obstacles and rests in the confidence that nothing is beyond His ability to redeem for His glory and our good.
Whenever fear begins to take hold, pause and ask yourself, “What is the worst that could happen?” Then remind yourself that even your worst-case scenario is not beyond God’s reach. His love is greater than your fears, His wisdom is greater than your doubts, and His power is greater than every obstacle before you.
Fear may knock on your door, but it does not have to rule your heart. As you fix your eyes on Jesus and place your confidence in Him, faith will begin to replace anxiety with peace, uncertainty with hope, and hesitation with courage.
Choose to believe instead of fear. Trust that the God who calls you is the same God who walks with you every step of the journey. As you place your hope in Him, what once seemed impossible can become a testimony of His faithfulness. Be not afraid; only believe. God is still working, and your greatest testimony may be closer than you think.
