GOD IS MINDFUL OF US

Scripture Reading: Psalm 8

Psalm 8:3-4 – “When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, The moon and the stars, which You have ordained, What is man that You are mindful of him, And the son of man that You visit him?

God is a God of Purpose, so everything He does He does it for a reason. He made us His Image  – He did not have a low estimation of man. So, God Himself is Mindful of you: say; “God Has me on His Mind”

The Bible says that God is mindful of you. God cares for you deeply. God looks after you attentively. God watches over you closely. Before you were born, God knew you intimately.

David asks two questions. Why does God think of us; and why does God bother to reach out to us? These are questions that most of us have considered.

There are those who look at the expanse of creation and conclude that human beings are just a fleeting accident of an evolving universe. They feel we have no significant place in this expanse. That is the view of the agnostic and atheist.

As Christians, we see our place in creation as an intentional act of God. We are not here by accident; we are here because God placed us here. Later in the Psalm, David tells us why God created us.

‘GOD IS MINDFUL OF US. GOD THINKS OF US.’ The Psalm’s central insight is that in spite of the incredible chasm that separates humans and our Creator, we matter to God.

In spite of the fact that we appear as minuscule specks of dust on a rock revolving around a distant star, God knows each of us.  Notwithstanding the idea that our sun is just one of thousands of stars glowing in countless galaxies flung across the universe, God is incredibly interested in our lives. We are important to God.

‘GOD REACHES OUT TO US.’ God cares for us. The word ‘visit’ is from a root which means to “hunt up, seek out; long for, take care of.” The Lord’s eyes are on each of us. He reaches out to have a relationship with each one of us. As a Father to His children, our Lord knows us by name and knows our frame.

In a world of rich and powerful rulers, God remains mindful of a poor and despised person languishing in pain, unknown and uncared for by anyone.

Ultimately, God reached out to us through Christ. He came to live in our world and invited us to come up and live with Him in His world.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, I am here because you have placed me here. Thank you for making me a part of your Plans. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
