HOW CAN I HELP?

Galatians 6:10 – “Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.”

Think for a moment about the last time someone showed you kindness. Maybe it was a word of encouragement you didn’t expect, a helping hand when you felt overwhelmed, or simply the presence of someone who chose to listen when you needed it most. Kindness has a way of piercing through the noise of life, reminding us that we’re not alone. It may seem small in the moment, but its impact often lingers for years.

The truth is, each of us carries that same power. God has uniquely designed us with abilities, gifts, and passions that allow us to do good for others. Some of these are spiritual gifts, others are practical skills, and some are just everyday strengths we might take for granted. Whether it’s offering wisdom, providing comfort, sharing resources, or even making someone laugh, we all have something to give.

But here’s the thing: opportunities don’t last forever. The apostle Paul reminds us that we won’t always have the same people in our lives, nor do we know how many days we’ll be given. That makes every encounter sacred. Every moment to serve, encourage, or help is a chance that may never come again. What we do with those chances matters more than we realize.

Helping others isn’t just about meeting a practical need—it’s an act of love. It’s a way of reflecting the heart of Jesus, who lived His life serving and giving without hesitation. When we choose to help someone, we aren’t only addressing their immediate need—we’re also offering them a glimpse of God’s love in action. Sometimes, the simplest act of kindness becomes the very doorway through which someone begins to experience hope, faith, and love tangibly.

Paul also highlights the importance of caring for fellow believers.  The church is more than a gathering place; it’s a family. Just as we look after the well-being of our own relatives, we’re called to extend that same care to our spiritual brothers and sisters. Supporting one another strengthens the body of Christ and allows the world to see the beauty of a community built on love.

So, how has God gifted you to serve? Maybe you’re a natural encourager, someone who always knows how to speak life into weary hearts. Perhaps you have resources or skills that can meet a practical need. Or maybe you simply have the gift of presence—the ability to sit with someone and remind them they’re not walking alone.

As you move through your day, look for opportunities to be a blessing. Write a note of encouragement. Check in on a friend who’s been quiet lately. Give generously of your time, your words, and your presence.

Because in the end, helping others isn’t just about changing their lives—it changes ours too. It draws us closer to the heart of God, teaches us compassion, and fills us with joy that only comes from giving. So today, ask yourself: How can I help? And then, take the next step; because your kindness might just transform someone’s life. Amen.
