(NKJV) “Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.”
(CEV): “Listen! I am standing and knocking at your door. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in and we will eat together.”
Jesus looked for an invitation from any responsive individual, but in Revelation 3:20, Jesus is not pleading with an individual to be saved; He’s seeking admittance to a church! Although this verse is often used as an invitation to an unbeliever to receive Jesus as Saviour, it applies directly to any church that is apathetic. Jesus is not unwilling to restore them to a better state, but they need to demonstrate their willingness to obey God. This verse pictures Jesus standing outside the church and knocking at its door to be welcomed and admitted into the church. He does not force himself upon the church, but patiently waits to be invited in.
Today, Jesus Promises to Fellowship with whoever would hear His voice and open the door: If your doorbell sounds and you find out that Jesus is Standing at the gate of your house, what will be your initial reaction? Will you shout, jump and invite Him in? One Characteristic of Jesus is that He Comes into our lives only when invited: Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. (James 4: 8)
Jesus Stands and knocks at the door and if anyone hears His voice and opens the door, He Will Come into the life of that man and Dine with him. Let us note that this Was Said to believers in the church of Laodicea. God is Speaking to us all; there are still some closed doors in our lives preventing Him from Coming in. Many of us Christians go on with our lives without allowing God to Partake in decisions we make. For some of us, there are some areas in our lives that are out of bounds to God.
Sampson neglected God’s Advice about his love life, and he ended up a slave to his enemies. Lot chose the wrong residence and it cost him his whole fortune, wife, and life. Jonah tried to run away from God’s Prescribed job for him and he ended up sinking other people’s boat and being thrown into the sea. Could it be that you may be going through some crises because you never gave God a chance to come in? Jesus is still knocking at the door to your marriage, spiritual life, job, etc. Life can be much better if you commit all to Jesus.
God is such a gentle Person that He Will Never Come in against our will. If we invite Him, He will Come in and Dine with us. He Has Good Plans for us (Jer 29; 11- For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end), but we have to listen to His voice, open our hearts and let Him in. I want to encourage you today; get personal with God. Invite Him through consistent daily prayer. Read The Word of God every day and obey it. As we delight ourselves in His Will for our lives, He Will satisfy our heart desires.
Heavenly Father,
I officially invite You once again to Come in and Take Charge of every aspect of my life – my family, marriage, schooling, ministry, finances etc. Lead me LORD and I will follow.
In Jesus’ Name, Amen
