THE RULER OF EVERYTHING

1 Chronicles 29:11 – “Thine, O LORD, is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: for all that is in the heaven and in the earth is thine; thine is the kingdom, O LORD, and thou art exalted as head above all.”

If you were to look at a map of the world, you would see a mosaic of nations divided by lines or boundaries that separate one people from another, one government from the next. Each country has leaders who make decisions, pass laws, and guide their people. Throughout history, human rulers have taken on the responsibility of governing their lands, believing they hold authority within their borders. But the truth is far greater than any crown, title, or seat of power can contain. God is the ultimate Ruler of everything.’

THE ILLUSION OF HUMAN CONTROL

In our world today, it’s easy to believe that power rests solely in the hands of presidents, kings, or influential leaders. Their policies shape nations, their choices affect lives, and their influence reaches far and wide. Yet, no matter how powerful a person may appear, their rule is temporary, and their reach is limited. Every empire in history has risen and fallen, every nation has known both triumph and struggle, but God’s reign has never faltered.

The Scriptures remind us that while human leaders govern parts of the earth, it is God who holds the universe in His hands. His authority is not confined to borders or time; He reigns over the heavens and the earth alike. When life feels chaotic, when nations tremble, economies shift, or leaders falterwe can find comfort in the unshakable truth that God remains firmly in control.

THE POWER THAT SURPASSES ALL

Human power is fragile. The mightiest rulers rely on breath, health, and time, things none of us can sustain on our own. But God’s power is limitless. He is the Creator who spoke the world into existence, the One who sustains every living thing by His Word. Every breath we take, every sunrise we see, and every heartbeat within us is sustained by His will.

When David declared in 1 Chronicles 29:11, “Yours, O Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the majesty and the splendor,” he was acknowledging a timeless truth: God alone is supreme. Everything belongs to Him. The heavens proclaim His handiwork, and the earth displays His glory. Our understanding of power changes when we realise that even the greatest human achievements exist under the sovereignty of God.

A RULER CLOSE TO HIS PEOPLE

What makes God’s rule so awe-inspiring is not only His greatness but also His closeness. Unlike distant monarchs or unreachable figures of authority, God is both transcendent and near. The same God who reigns over galaxies also cares deeply about the details of your life. He is not removed from His creation; He is intimately involved in it.

This truth brings peace in a world full of uncertainty. When it seems that the decisions of rulers or the state of the world are beyond your control, you can take comfort in knowing that the One who truly rules over everything is also your loving Father. His plans are good, His power is perfect, and His presence never fades.

LIVING WITH THE AWARENESS OF GOD’S SOVEREIGNTY

Recognising God as the Ruler of everything changes how we live. It reminds us to shift our focus from earthly powers to divine authority. Instead of fearing what might happen tomorrow, we can trust the One who holds tomorrow in His hands. Instead of placing our hope in leaders or systems, we can anchor our faith in the eternal King whose Kingdom will never end.

This awareness also calls us to worship. When we grasp the magnitude of God’s sovereignty, our natural response is praise. He is worthy—not because of what He gives us, but because of who He is. To know that the Creator of the universe invites us into a relationship with Him is both humbling and extraordinary.

Take a moment today to pause and reflect on this truth: the God who rules over all creation knows your name. His greatness does not distance Him from you, it draws you closer. He is not a ‘far-off’ ruler in a heavenly palace but a present, personal Lord who walks with His people every day.
Amen.
