TO THE GLORY OF CHRIST

Colossians 3:17 – “And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.”

Following Jesus is more than a change of belief; it is a change of life. When we encounter Him, we are no longer defined by our past failures, regrets, or mistakes. Instead, we are renewed, given a second chance, and invited to live each day with fresh purpose.

In our old way of living, much of what we did was for our own recognition. We sought applause, approval, or self-advancement. But when Christ becomes the centre of our lives, something shifts. No longer do we live for our own glory; we begin to see that every word, every action, and every choice can become an expression of worship to God.

WORSHIP IN THE EVERYDAY

It’s easy to think of worship as something that happens only in a church building, through songs, prayers, and sermons. But Colossians 3:17 stretches our perspective. Worship is not limited to Sunday mornings or spiritual activities. Worship is woven into the ordinary.

Raising children, pursuing education, showing up for work, cooking meals, or even taking out the trash; these are not wasted tasks. When done with gratitude and love for God, they become sacred. The smallest action, carried out with the right heart, carries eternal weight.

Think of it this way: every moment of your day is a canvas, and how you choose to live paints a picture of Christ’s love and presence in your life.

GRATITUDE IN THE MUNDANE

Of course, not every task feels holy. Some feel repetitive, draining, or insignificant. But Scripture reminds us that even these moments can glorify Christ.

When we approach life with gratitude—recognizing that the breath in our lungs, the strength in our hands, and the opportunities before us are gifts from God—we begin to see the ordinary differently. What once felt meaningless becomes an opportunity to honor Him.

So the next time you catch yourself grumbling or wishing you were doing something “more important,” pause and remember: if Christ is in you, even the simplest task can reflect His glory.

A SEASON OF REFLECTION

Advent is a time of waiting, preparing, and reflecting. What habits, attitudes, or desires have changed? Where has He given you a new purpose?

Then, look at your daily life with fresh eyes. Are there areas where you still struggle with frustration, complaint, or discontent? What would it look like to surrender those moments to Christ and carry them out with joy, as an offering of love?

LIVING FOR HIS NAME

At its heart, Colossians 3:17 calls us to live for something greater than ourselves. To live in such a way that every action, no matter how small, points back to the One who gave us life.

As you journey through this season, consider how your life has been transformed since you began following Jesus.  So whether you’re in the middle of something challenging or simply going through daily routines, remember you have the privilege of doing it for the glory of Christ. And as you do, you’ll find that even the ordinary becomes extraordinary when it’s done in His name. Amen.
