NKJV, Proverbs 15:1-4 – “1 A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger. v2 The tongue of the wise useth knowledge aright: but the mouth of fools poureth out foolishness. v3 The eyes of the LORD are in every place, beholding the evil and the good. v4 A wholesome tongue is a tree of life: but perverseness therein is a breach in the spirit.”
CEV, Proverbs 15:1-4 – “A kind answer soothes angry feelings, but harsh words stir them up. v2 Words of wisdom come from the wise, but fools speak foolishness. v3 The Lord sees everything, whether good or bad. v4 Kind words are good medicine, but deceitful words can really hurt.”
Words are invisible, yet they are the main channels by which knowledge, understanding, and perception are communicated. Our Heavenly Father wants us to learn today, how powerful our words are.
WORDS ARE POWERFUL: THEY CONTAIN POWER. Do not say words like; ‘these shoes are too tight & they are KILLING me’, ‘I’m DYING to eat the cake’, ‘I’m SICK AND TIRED of …’ ‘it tickles me to DEATH’ etc. It’s not who you are taking to, but it’s the words that you are saying – don’t speak negative comments/words.
Your words being powerful implies, they have the potential to cause change in the affairs of your life. From our reference text, we see the Wiseman in Proverbs drawing our attention to some things we need to bear in mind anytime we want to speak. This lesson has become necessary because, there are quite a few of us God-fearing Christians simply do not know how to talk. Anytime some of us speak, we end up worsening the plight of people we intend to help.
YOUR WORDS AFFECT YOUR FUTURE – Confessing (or saying The Word of God out loud) & then getting into agreement with The Plan of God for your life with your life, will make some of amazing changes in your life that you have ever seen.
CHANGE YOUR WORDS CHANGE YOUR LIFE – if you can really take care of the words, you say out of your mouth. you can change your life in a big way. You can help or hurt your future with the words that you speak – wrong words bring destruction in our life and vice versa. people cannot see our heart; they only see what we do & hear what we say. Pray for God’s Power on a daily basis, help not to speak defeat. Every word that comes out your mouth has Power (Prov; 18, 20) – A man’s belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; and with the increase of his lips shall he be filled. Our words also affect other people.
Firstly, the words that come out of our mouths can either stir up wrath or quench anger. This depends on how gentle or harsh we may speak. In other words, in our communication, it is not only the words we use that matter, but more so, how we say it. We must learn to speak with all gentility and love.
Secondly, the words that proceed from our mouths reveal whether we are wise or otherwise. Show me a man who speaks without caution as to how people may feel, and I will show you a man without wisdom. Our use of knowledge; knowing exactly what to say at the right time, is a real test of wisdom. It takes wisdom to know whether to be silent or speak.
Our words also have effect in the spiritual world: Words & Angels – God Has given us angels to help us but They listen to WORD, (Ps; 103, 20) – Bless the LORD, ye his angels, that excel in strength, that do his commandments, HEARKENING UNTO THE VOICE OF HIS WORD. If you want your Angels to Work for you than give them something to work with , because of (Heb 1: 14)- Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation? – and they only HEARKEN UNTO THE VOICE OF HIS WORD.
Also, we need to always be conscious of the truth that, the eyes of the LORD are upon us, watching all we do and speak. Therefore, our speeches ought to be like a life-giving tree; not one that worsens people’s plight. When people speak to you, may they leave with comfort and hope, not condemnation. Your tongue is very powerful. Think about this. Words are the most important things on this planet; That makes the Word of God THE MOST PRECIOUS WORDS ON EARTH.
PRAYER
Heavenly Father, please grant me the Grace to ensure that no unwholesome word comes out of my mouth, but only what is beneficial for the building up of the one in need, that it may give grace to those who hear me (Ephesians 4:29). Bless me LORD, in Jesus’ Name, Amen.
