STORE UP THE WORD WITHIN YOU

Proverbs 7:1–2 “My son, keep my words, and lay up my commandments with thee. Keep my commandments, and live; and my law as the apple of thine eye.”

Colossians 3:16 “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord”.

There is a kind of wealth that isn’t kept in a vault or bank account, yet it strengthens you in every season of life. It is the wealth of God’s Word; truth stored deep within the heart. Long before we face challenges, decisions, or moments of weariness, God invites us to gather His Word like precious treasure and hold it close.

Growing up, I was encouraged to think beyond financial savings. I was taught to build two spiritual accounts: a Prayer Bank and a Word Bank. What I invested in these (time in fellowship with God and time in Scripture) became reserves I have drawn from again and again throughout my life. They sustained me long before I realised how much I would need them.

To store up the Word simply means to gather and hold onto what nourishes your spirit. It’s allowing Scripture to become so familiar that it shapes the way you think, respond, and live. Reading it daily, memorising it, reflecting on it, and letting it settle deep within you creates a kind of inner stability the world cannot shake. God’s Word becomes the anchor that steadies the heart.

I remember a season in school when I felt overwhelmed and defeated. One afternoon, sitting on the floor with tears in my eyes, I resolved to resign from a leadership role I believed I had failed in. In that very moment, a scripture I had learned years earlier rose powerfully within me: “I know the plans I have for you… plans to give you a hope and a future.” As it echoed through my mind, a gentle question followed: “Is this where My plans for you end? With giving up?” That verse, once merely memorised, became a lifeline. It reminded me that God had not abandoned His purpose for me.

This is the beauty of storing Scripture in the heart—it becomes God’s voice in moments when you need it most. Often we read verses without knowing when or how they will speak back to us, but the Holy Spirit knows exactly when to bring them alive. What we tuck away today may become the encouragement we desperately need tomorrow.

When the Word dwells richly within you, it doesn’t stay hidden. It begins to overflow into wisdom for decisions, strength in weakness, encouragement for others, and even spiritual songs that rise from a heart full of grace. A full Word Bank becomes a fountain that blesses not just your own life but those around you.

So, store the Word. Cherish it. Memorise it. Meditate on it. Let it fill the empty places, guide your steps, and remind you who God is and who you are in Him. When the storms arrive (as they surely will), you will find that the Word within you becomes the peace, direction, and confidence you need.

Store up the Word so you can truly live. God bless you.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, plant Your Word deep within my heart. Give me consistency, hunger, and joy as I read, memorise, and meditate on Scripture. Let Your Word shape my thoughts, decisions, and emotions. In Jesus’ Name,
Amen.
