Have you ever looked at the world around you and wondered, “Why is there so much evil, injustice, suffering, and pain?” Sometimes the things we see and hear can become overwhelming. Wars continue, innocent people suffer, families are broken, and wickedness seems to flourish. At times, the weight of it all can become too much for the human heart to carry.
Psalm 94 gives us a powerful picture of someone who wrestled with those very emotions. David was deeply troubled by the wickedness he witnessed. He saw arrogant, evil people hurting others and acting as though their actions would never have consequences. It was painful, frustrating, and seemingly unfair.
Yet David did not allow the darkness around him to make him lose sight of God. He reminded himself that the Lord was the Creator who saw everything, heard every cry, and knew every thought. Nothing happening in the world was hidden from Him. Even when justice appeared delayed, God had not lost control.
Then David revealed where he found strength in the middle of his inner turmoil:
“When the cares of my heart are many, your consolations cheer my soul.”
What a beautiful truth! David did not pretend that his troubles were insignificant. He acknowledged that his heart was carrying many cares. But he also discovered that God’s comfort was greater than the weight of those cares.
That same truth speaks to us today.
We may not be able to change everything happening around us. We may not understand why certain things happen or why some prayers seem to take so long to receive an answer. We may even experience seasons when our minds are crowded with concerns about our families, our future, our relationships, our finances, or circumstances beyond our control.
But we can bring all those concerns to God.
God does not ask us to carry tomorrow before tomorrow arrives. He invites us to place our burdens in His hands and trust His wisdom, His goodness, and His timing. His comfort does not always mean that our circumstances immediately change; sometimes it means that He gives us peace and strength while we walk through them.
David eventually declared, “But the LORD has become my stronghold, and my God the rock of my refuge” (Psalm 94:22). His confidence was not in the absence of trouble but in the presence of God.
That is where our hope lies too.
Through Jesus Christ, God has shown us the depth of His love and His willingness to meet humanity in its brokenness. The cross reminds us that evil and suffering do not have the final word. Christ has already overcome sin and death, and one day God will bring an end to every form of wickedness, sorrow, and injustice.
Until that day comes, we can run to God as our refuge.
When our hearts are troubled, He is our comfort.
When our thoughts are overwhelmed, He is our peace.
When we feel weak, He is our strength.
When we cannot see the way forward, He remains our refuge.
So, whatever cares are filling your heart today, do not carry them alone. Talk to God about them. Give Him your fears, disappointments, questions, hopes, and dreams. Allow His presence to quiet your troubled heart and remind you that He sees what you cannot see and knows what you cannot understand.
The world may be filled with uncertainty, but God remains certain.
“When the cares of my heart are many, your consolations cheer my soul.”
May His comfort strengthen you today, calm your heart, and give you the assurance that, whatever happens around you, you are never beyond the reach of God’s presence, love, and care.
