THE PLACE TO START

Proverbs 1:7  “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.”

In a world overflowing with information, knowledge has never been more accessible. With books, podcasts, online courses, and endless internet resources, we can learn almost anything within seconds. Yet despite all this information, many people still struggle to find wisdom, peace, and direction for life.

Why? Because knowledge alone is not enough.

The book of Proverbs reminds us that “the fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge.” This does not mean living in terror of God, but living with deep reverence, awe, and respect for who He is. True understanding begins when we recognise that God is not merely part of life, He is the source of life itself.

When we pause to reflect on God’s greatness, our perspective changes. He created the heavens and the earth. He holds all wisdom, power, and authority. Nothing is beyond His understanding, and nothing is outside His care. The same God who formed the universe also knows every detail about our lives. That truth alone should fill our hearts with wonder.

But God is not only powerful: He is also loving, gracious, and compassionate. Even when humanity drifted away from Him, His love remained constant. Through Jesus Christ, God made a way for us to come close to Him again, not through fear or performance, but through relationship and grace. This reveals the heart of God: A Father Who desires to be known by His children.

The more we know God, the clearer we understand ourselves, our purpose, and the world around us. Without Him, knowledge can become empty information. But with Him, knowledge becomes wisdom that transforms how we live, think, and love.

Many people spend years searching for meaning in success, education, or achievements, only to discover that fulfilment cannot be found in information alone. Real wisdom begins when our hearts are anchored in God’s truth. His Word gives guidance when life feels confusing, hope when circumstances feel heavy, and peace when the world feels uncertain.

As we consistently seek Him, our faith grows stronger, our thinking becomes clearer, and our lives begin to reflect His wisdom. The greatest place to start in life is not with human opinion, but with God Himself. When we place Him first, everything else begins to fall into its proper place.
Amen.
