UNTIL CHRIST IS FORMED IN YOU

Galatians 4:19 “My little children, of whom I am again undergoing birth pains until Christ is formed in you!”

Spiritual growth is a journey, not a destination reached overnight. Just as a child requires nurturing, guidance, and care from birth to adulthood, every believer needs encouragement and discipleship to grow into the person God has called them to be.

When the Apostle Paul wrote to the believers in Galatia, his words revealed the depth of his love and concern for them. He had introduced them to the gospel and watched them begin their walk with Christ. Yet he saw that their spiritual development was hindered by influences that pulled them away from the simplicity and freedom found in Christ. Like a caring parent, Paul was willing to endure hardship and emotional pain until he saw Christ fully formed in their lives.

What does it mean for Christ to be formed in us? It means that His character becomes evident in our attitudes, choices, and relationships. It means growing in love, humility, faith, compassion, patience, and obedience to God. It is the gradual process by which our lives increasingly reflect the heart of Jesus.

Many people begin their Christian journey with great enthusiasm but struggle to mature spiritually. Growth requires more than a single moment of decision; it requires ongoing learning, accountability, encouragement, and a willingness to be shaped by God’s Word and Spirit. This is why healthy spiritual relationships are so important. God often uses mature believers, pastors, mentors, and spiritual leaders to guide us, challenge us, and help us become more like Christ.

At the same time, Paul’s example reminds us that spiritual maturity is not only about our own growth. We are also called to invest in others. Every believer has the opportunity to encourage, support, pray for, and help someone else move closer to Christ. True spiritual parenting is not limited to church leaders; it is the privilege of everyone who desires to see others flourish in their faith.

The Christian life begins with a new birth, but it does not end there. God desires that we continually grow in grace, deepen our relationship with Him, and increasingly reflect His nature in every area of our lives. The goal is not merely to know about Christ but to allow His life to be expressed through us.

Today, take a moment to examine your spiritual journey. Are you becoming more like Christ than you were a year ago? Are you allowing godly influences to shape your life? Are you helping others grow in their faith? May we pursue spiritual maturity with purpose and passion until Christ is fully formed in us and clearly seen through our lives.

PRAYER

Surround me with godly influences that will strengthen my faith, and use me to encourage others in their walk with You. Let the character and love of Christ be increasingly evident in all I do. In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
