Proverbs 3:5-6 – Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding…In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
When you know that something important is about to happen, you do not simply sit back and wait. You prepare. If you are expecting a special visitor, you make the house ready. If you are preparing for a journey, you plan your route, pack your belongings, and make the necessary arrangements. Expectation naturally produces preparation.
FAITH WORKS IN MUCH THE SAME WAY.
When we genuinely trust God and believe His promises, our faith changes the way we approach tomorrow. We do not merely hope that something good might happen; we begin to live with confident expectation that God is at work. Faith gives us a reason to prepare for what we believe He will do.
This does not mean trying to force God to act or attempting to earn His blessing through our efforts. Faith is not a transaction with God. Rather, faith is a confident response to who God is and what He has promised. Because we trust Him, we are willing to move forward even when we cannot yet see the outcome.
FAITH GIVES DIRECTION TO OUR ACTIONS
Prayer is one of the ways we express our faith. When we bring our needs, dreams, and circumstances before God, we are acknowledging that our future is not beyond His reach. We place our confidence in Him and surrender the outcome to His wisdom.
BUT GENUINE FAITH DOES NOT END WHEN THE PRAYER ENDS.
James reminds us that faith and action belong together. He teaches that faith without corresponding action is dead because authentic faith eventually becomes visible in the way we live. Our actions do not purchase God’s promises; they demonstrate that we genuinely trust Him.
Think about Noah. Before the flood came, he built the ark. The rain had not yet fallen, but Noah acted on God’s instruction because he believed what God had said.
THAT IS THE NATURE OF FAITH.
Faith may cause you to take a step before you see the whole staircase. It may encourage you to begin preparing before circumstances appear to change. It may lead you to develop a skill, make a wise decision, change your priorities, forgive someone, start something new, or simply keep moving forward when the present circumstances seem discouraging.
Faith does not require us to know every detail of tomorrow. It gives us confidence in the One who already knows tomorrow.
PREPARE WHILE YOU WAIT
Sometimes God’s answer does not come as quickly as we expect. During those seasons, waiting can become difficult. We may wonder whether anything is happening at all.
BUT WAITING DOES NOT HAVE TO MEAN DOING NOTHING.
There are seasons when God is preparing us as we wait for the thing we have been praying for. Instead of becoming discouraged by the delay, we can use the waiting season to grow, learn, develop, and prepare.
If you are praying for a new opportunity, prepare yourself for it. If you are believing God for greater responsibility, develop the character needed to carry it. If you are asking Him to open a door, make sure you are ready to walk through it when it opens.
SOMETIMES THE PREPARATION IS PART OF THE ANSWER.
Faith therefore changes our attitude towards the future. Instead of looking ahead with anxiety, we can look ahead with expectation. Instead of constantly asking, “What if everything goes wrong?” we can ask, “How can I prepare for what God may be bringing into my life?”
That shift can transform the way we live.
FAITH LOOKS BEYOND WHAT IS VISIBLE
One of the greatest challenges of faith is learning to trust God when there is little visible evidence of change. Our circumstances may say one thing while God’s promises give us another perspective.
Faith does not deny reality. It simply refuses to allow present circumstances to have the final word.
You may not see the breakthrough yet. You may not see the opportunity yet. You may not see how the situation will work out. But you can still take the next faithful step.
That step may seem small, but small, consistent steps can prepare the way for significant change.
Faith says, “I trust God enough to prepare today for the future I believe He is leading me towards.”
So, pray. Believe. Listen to God. Then act wisely on what you have received.
Do not spend all your time waiting for the future while neglecting the preparation that can be done today. If you believe God is leading you somewhere, begin preparing for the journey.
The future may not look anything like you imagined. God’s answer may come differently or at a different time than expected. Yet our confidence does not rest in controlling the outcome. It rests in knowing that God can be trusted.
FAITH PREPARES TODAY FOR WHAT GOD MAY ACCOMPLISH TOMORROW.
When we trust Him, we can face the future not with fear, but with expectation. We can pray with confidence, live with purpose, and take faithful steps forward knowing that the God who holds tomorrow is already there.
