Psalms 1:1-3, NET – “1 How blessed is the one who does not follow the advice of the wicked, or stand in the pathway with sinners, or sit in the assembly of scoffers! 2 Instead he finds pleasure in obeying the LORD’s commands; he meditates on his commands day and night. 3 He is like a tree planted by flowing streams; it yields its fruit at the proper time, and its leaves never fall off. He succeeds in everything he attempts.”
Psalms 37: 23, NKJV – “The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way.”
Now, is the time for you make to some changes in your life & move on in the RIGHT DIRECTION.
BIBLICAL MEANING OF DIRECTION – It is God’s road-map for an individual. It is the ways of God revealed to men. Psalms 103:7 – He made known his ways to Moses, his acts to the children of Israel. Proverbs 16:25 – There is a way that seems right to a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.
When you get born-again & filled with The Holy Spirit, He will lead you in the right direction. Keep your tongue, thoughts, etc in the right direction – if your thoughts are wrong your life will go in the wrong direction, but if your thoughts are right your life will go in the right direction. Without good direction, people lose their way; the wiser counsel you follow, the better your chances. Whoever makes deals with strangers is sure to get burned; if you keep a cool head, you will avoid rash bargains.
God wants us to go forward in the right direction. However, the important question for us to answer is, “How do we discover the right direction to go?”. The first step is to find a free time or day, go on a personal retreat and carefully analyse four critical factors to decision making as highlighted by the Psalmist in Psalms 1.
The Psalmist explained that to go in the right direction and prosper in life, we need to do four major things as follows:
1.Avoid the counsel of the ungodly,
2.Stay away from the path of sinners,
3.Avoid sitting in the seat of scoffers (ridiculers) and
4.Delight and meditate on God’s word.
These reveal the 4 critical factors we must always consider in assessing whether we are in the right life direction.
These are as follows:
1.Counsel of men
2.Environment
3.Association and
4.Desires.
Every decision we will ever take in life will be consciously or unconsciously influenced by all these 4 factors.
Blessed is the man who does not take advice from the wicked. If you will move forward in the right direction in life, you would have to first and foremost, close doors on evil and ungodly counsel. When you want to make a major decision in life, which people do you seek advice from? Are they people who love righteousness and seek to guide you on a Godly path to life?
Secondly, blessed is the man/woman who does not stand on the path of sinners or sit in the seat of scoffers. Where have you pitched your tent in life? Which people do you associate yourself with; those who mock at wisdom and uphold folly in life? As you separate yourself in quietness to meditate, reflect on these questions.
Scripture is also clear that God continues to speak to us and offer us direction straight from His voice. John 10:27 says, “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.” All throughout the New Testament we see God’s people living and working by the direct Word of the Lord.
Most important of all, to discover whether or not you are in the right direction, you have to delight yourself in God’s Word, meditate on it daily, and ensure that whatever you do will be done in line with God’s Word. When you seek Godly counsel, stand on the path of righteousness and on God’s Word concerning that issue at stake. As you do that, everything you do shall prosper. Amen.
