John 6:29 “Jesus told them, ‘This is the only work God wants from you: Believe in the one he has sent.’ (NLT)
Sometimes we make our relationship with God more complicated than it needs to be. We wonder, Am I doing enough? Am I praying enough? Am I serving enough? Am I spiritual enough? Before long, our faith can begin to feel like an exhausting performance rather than a relationship with a loving God.
But Jesus gave a remarkably simple answer when people asked Him what God wanted from them: “Believe in the one he has sent.”
This does not mean that Christian faith is passive or that our choices no longer matter. It means that everything begins with trusting Jesus. Before we can faithfully follow Him, we must first believe that He is who He said He is and that He is worthy of our confidence.
Faith Begins Where Self-Reliance Ends.
We often want certainty before we trust. We want to know how everything will work out before we take the next step. We want God to show us the entire journey before we are willing to move.
Faith works differently.
Sometimes God gives us enough light for the next step, not the entire road. Believing Jesus means trusting Him even when we cannot see what lies ahead.You may not understand why a door closed. You may not know how a difficult situation will resolve. You may be facing circumstances that seem completely beyond your control. Yet faith says, “I may not understand everything, but I know whom I have trusted.”
Believing Jesus Changes How We Live.
Genuine faith is not merely agreeing that Jesus exists. It is allowing that belief to influence our decisions, priorities, attitudes, and responses.
When you believe Jesus, you begin to bring your worries to Him instead of carrying them alone. You seek His wisdom when making decisions. You choose forgiveness when bitterness feels easier. You remain hopeful when circumstances seem discouraging. You keep moving forward when fear tells you to give up.
Faith does not mean pretending that problems are not real. It means refusing to let problems become bigger than the One you trust.
What Does This Look Like Practically?
When you wake up facing an uncertain day, start by placing your confidence in Christ rather than in your circumstances. When you encounter a problem you cannot solve, tell Jesus honestly what concerns you and trust Him with what you cannot control. When you make a mistake, do not run away from God in shame. Run toward Him in faith.
When the future looks intimidating, remember that you do not need to have every answer today. You simply need to keep trusting the One who already knows tomorrow. And when progress seems painfully slow, resist the temptation to measure God’s faithfulness by your circumstances. His presence is not cancelled by a difficult season.
The Greatest Response Is Trust
John 6:29 redirects our attention from exhausting ourselves trying to prove something to God toward placing our confidence in Christ.
Jesus is not asking us to manufacture our own security. He is inviting us to trust Him. That trust becomes the foundation for everything else. We pray because we trust Him. We obey because we trust Him. We persevere because we trust Him. We serve because we trust Him. We love because we trust Him.
So, if today feels uncertain, do not spend all your energy trying to figure everything out. Believe in Jesus.
Take the next step with Him. Give Him the burden you cannot carry. Trust Him with the unanswered question. And remember, when you cannot see the way forward, you can still trust the One who can.
