WE OUGHT TO LOVE ONE ANOTHER

John 15:17 – “These things I command you, that you love one another.

Love; it’s the heartbeat of God, the essence of His nature, and the very foundation upon which all creation stands. When Jesus (Jn 15:17) spoke these words to His disciples, He wasn’t merely giving them a suggestion or moral ideal; He was revealing the core of divine life itself. To love one another is not simply to do good; it is to reflect the very nature of God living within us.

God is love. That means His character is not selfish, arrogant, or self-centred. Instead, He is perfectly selfless, kind, humble, patient, and full of grace. Every act of God flows from His nature of love. And when we are born again, that same divine nature begins to grow within us. Love is not something we strive to manufacture; it is something we learn to release.

THE NATURE OF LOVE

To love one another is to live out the reality of who we have become in Christ. It’s not merely an emotional response or a polite gesture; it’s a spiritual expression of the divine life within us.

Love manifests in countless ways. Sometimes it looks like forgiveness, choosing to release resentment because we remember how freely we’ve been forgiven. Other times it looks like patience, giving others the time and grace we so often need ourselves. It can be seen in kindness, generosity, compassion, and humility.

Love is practical, yet profoundly spiritual. It moves us to act, to give, to heal, and to understand. Imagine, for a moment, what our world would look like if every man, woman, and child chose to love one another wholeheartedly. Fear, hatred, and division would crumble. The enemy’s footholds (bitterness, envy, and pride) would vanish under the power of perfect love.

Love disarms darkness. It builds bridges where walls once stood. It turns enemies into friends and brings peace where conflict once reigned.

A LOVE THAT NEVER FAILS

The apostle Paul wrote that love “never fails.” True love: the kind that flows from God’s Spirit, cannot be destroyed or diminished. It keeps no record of wrongs, is not self-seeking, and doesn’t give up when circumstances grow difficult.

Our love for others should never depend on whether they deserve it. If it did, love would be inconsistent and conditional. But divine love operates differently; it flows from identity, not circumstance. We love because of who we are, not because of what others do.

When we understand that we have been made in the image of a loving God, expressing love becomes natural, even in the face of rejection or misunderstanding. Love is not about being repaid; it’s about being renewed.

Every time we choose to love, we resist the pull of bitterness. Every time we forgive, we break the chains of resentment. And every time we show kindness, we let light overcome darkness.

TRANSFORMING THE WORLD – ONE ACT OF LOVE AT A TIME

One act of love can shift the atmosphere of an entire room. One gesture of kindness can heal a heart that’s been wounded for years. One forgiving word can stop a cycle of pain and restore peace where anger once reigned.

Transformation doesn’t always come through grand gestures; it often begins with simple choices made daily. A word of encouragement. A helping hand. A moment of listening when someone feels unseen. These are the building blocks of love in action.

If each of us made love our highest priority, we would be reflecting heaven on earth. The world is in desperate need of love that is real, unconditional, and steadfast. It doesn’t need perfection; it needs people willing to love like God does: selflessly and consistently.

So, start where you are. Love that brother or sister. Forgive the one who hurt you. Be patient with the one who frustrates you. Extend grace to the one who misunderstands you. Every act of love is a seed planted in the soil of eternity, and God can use it to bring forth something beautiful.

A PRAYER OF LOVE

Heavenly Father, thank You for showing me what perfect love looks like through Jesus. Teach me to manifest Your love in every word, thought, and action. I choose today to let go of bitterness, resentment, and pride. Fill my heart with patience, forgiveness, and compassion. May Your love transform my home, my relationships, and my world.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
