(NKJV) Colossians 3:1-2 “If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. 2 Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.
(CEV) Colossians 3:1-2 “You have been raised to life with Christ. Now set your heart on what is in heaven, where Christ rules at God’s right side. 2 Think about what is up there, not about what is here on earth.
‘seek’ = pursue, crave, go after, with all that you have got
it’s important that you identify yourself with Jesus –set your mind on Heavenly things. Have hope in every situation – like yourself no matter what people say or what is going on around us. Make your mind up that you can overcome anything –you are a warrior, not wimpy & you can do anything through Christ Who Strengthens you, ie; you can handle anything that life throws at you through Christ Who Strengthens you. The Bible Says (in Col 3: 2) that set your mind & keep it set on things above –The way you set your mind is to purposefully think of things ahead of time. Take a few minutes in the morning & have a meeting with God before you get out of bed.
Be mindful to be a blessing every day eg if you set your mind that ‘I will not gossip about anybody again, I will not talk unkindly about people, etc’ – if you prepare your mind ahead of time, then when the temptation comes you will not give in to it, ie: make your mind up that you are not going to gossip, I am not going to look at porn again, etc, so when that opportunity comes you will not gossip. If you set your mind ahead of time when the situation comes you will not bow to it. Set your mind that when somebody offends you; you are going to forgive him. Make your mind up that you only going to have spiritual healthy friends – people who don’t gossip, are givers etc
Every morning, millions of people world-wide wake up and get very busy going after some opportunities, jobs, appointment, or academics etc. Many returns home very late with either an expression of fulfillment or despair. The big question is: what are we really seeking for in this life? I think the answer to this question is simple: A Better Life. Someway somehow, everybody wants to have a better life. Apostle Paul establishes that the best things to seek for in life are not on this Earth but above, where Jesus Christ is. In other words, the best experience any human ought to seek in life is to be with Christ in the presence of God Almighty forever.
Dear child of God, keep seeking the things above in order to finally attain your place and rewards in the Heavenly Jerusalem. As for me, I have made a firm resolution to seek God and the manifestation of His Kingdom in our generation all the days of my life. You are Jesus’ Representative on this earth so act like Him, how? Col 3; 2. (Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.). Here are some ‘Set your mind’ examples, set your mind & keep it set:
to think of things that Jesus will Think of,
to treat people well,
to have and put a Godly Character all day,
to be good to somebody – We should always seek the welfare of our neighbors, & not focus only on ourselves.
to let some things go,
that you will NOT be easily offended,
on what God Wants or Asked you to do,
to discipline your kids,
to never bow to fear in times of trouble,
for victory, not for defeat,
It is not a victory for you to hate somebody.
Don’t seek your need, but seek first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Don’t seek after earthly things but seek after God. Don’t seek the blessings but seek The Blesser – honor God at the start of the day (Matt 6: 33). Don’t seek things over God & Godliness – Don’t seek The Kingdom Benefits, it should be the other way around. Do not seek what you anything else, but seek God & let Him Give you the desires of heart (Ps 37; 4 – only Godly desires
Ps; 34, 10 –they that seek the Lord shall lack nothing. It is God’s Will for me to lack nothing.
Prov; 3, 5-6 – The Lord first…when He tells you do something do it
Matt 6: 33 – Seek the Kingdom Of God – we need seek The Kingdom not The Kingdom benefits ie, things (anything outside God is a thing) don’t pursue open doors. So many people seek the reward instead of seeking The One Who Rewards.
1 Cor 10: 24 – Let no man seek his own, but every man another’s wealth.
The Bible says that God ‘rewards those who diligently seek Him’ (Heb 11: 6). Always keep asking…knocking…seeking…& be hungry for your future. Persistent determination is the key to victory. Don’t give up…Jesus Said ask…seek…knock…God will Save your Loved ones if you don’t give up. Seeking God is better than seeking a job, car, house, spouse, money, education, etc. If you seek these things without God, you will eventually lose it all without any hope of eternal life. However, God Gives those who diligently seek Him the best of these material blessings as bonus. May God help us to seek the things above, Amen.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, please help me to stay focused on You, and seek You all the days of my life. May I not be enticed by the cravings of the world.
In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
Set your mind on The Will of God (not on things on the earth.) – don’t start your day with you all on your mind on you, but on how you can be a blessing to somebody.
