GRACE AND TRUTH IN JESUS

John 1:17 “For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ”.

For centuries, the people of Israel held onto a promise. Through hardship, uncertainty, and long seasons of waiting, they believed that God would one day send the Messiah: the One who would restore hope and bring the Kingdom of God to the world. Their expectation carried them through difficult times because their confidence rested in the faithfulness of God.

Then, at the appointed time, the promise was fulfilled.

But the arrival of the Messiah did not look the way many expected. There were no royal announcements, no grand ceremonies, and no armies marching ahead of Him. Instead, the Saviour of the world entered quietly into history as a baby, born in the humble town of Bethlehem in the stillness of the night.

Yet this child was far more than a long-awaited deliverer. He was God Himself entering the human story.

The apostle John reveals this breathtaking truth when he writes that “the Word was God” (John 1:1). The eternal Word, who existed from the beginning, stepped into time and took on human form. God did not remain distant from the struggles of humanity; He came near and lived among us.

IN JESUS, THE INVISIBLE GOD BECAME VISIBLE.

His birth was the beginning of a miracle unlike any other. Jesus was fully God and fully human. He carried the fullness of God’s nature while living in the reality of human life. As the apostle Paul later explains, “in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form” (Colossians 2:9). Through Jesus, the very character and heart of God were revealed to the world.

When we look at the life and ministry of Jesus, two words beautifully summarises everything He brought to humanity: grace and truth.

Grace is the undeserved kindness of God reaching toward us. Throughout His ministry, Jesus extended grace to people from every walk of life. He forgave those burdened by guilt, restored those who felt forgotten, and welcomed those who believed they had no place in God’s story. His grace offered people a new beginning and freedom from the weight of their past.

BUT JESUS ALSO BROUGHT TRUTH.

Truth reveals the reality of who God is and what life is meant to be. Through His teachings and example, Jesus showed people the way to genuine life and lasting hope. His words carried clarity, wisdom, and authority, helping people see beyond the confusion of the world and understand the heart of God.

Grace and truth were never in conflict in Jesus: they worked together perfectly. Grace opened the door to forgiveness, while truth guided people into a transformed life.

This same grace and truth are now extended to everyone who believes in Him.

Through Christ, we receive forgiveness and the opportunity to begin again. Our past no longer defines us, and our future is no longer uncertain. The grace of Jesus restores our relationship with God, and the truth of Jesus leads us into a life shaped by hope, purpose, and faith.

The story of Jesus reminds us that God’s love is not distant or abstract. It is personal, compassionate, and life-changing. The baby born in Bethlehem grew to reveal the very heart of God, full of grace and truth.

Today, take a moment to reflect on this incredible gift. Thank God for sending His Son into the world. Thank Him for the grace that forgives and the truth that guides your life. In Jesus, we discover both the mercy we long for and the truth we need. Jesus is the perfect picture of God’s love, full of grace and truth.
Amen
