LET GOD’S LOVE FLOW THROUGH YOU

1 Peter 2:17: “Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king.” (KJV)

LOVE THE BROTHERHOOD

As children of God, we have a purpose beyond enjoying the blessings He gives us. We are here to represent Jesus, demonstrate His love and help others discover the wonderful life He offers. God has placed us on earth to make a difference in people’s lives and to advance His Kingdom.

One of the most powerful ways we can fulfil this purpose is by showing genuine love to others. We do not always need a pulpit, a microphone or an opportunity to preach. Sometimes, a simple act of kindness, a sincere word of encouragement or a willingness to listen can communicate God’s love more powerfully than many words.

The world is desperately searching for genuine love. Many people experience rejection, loneliness, disappointment and selfishness in their daily lives. They may be surrounded by people but still feel unloved and unappreciated. As Christians, we have received God’s love through Jesus Christ, and we should allow that love to flow through us to others.

We must remember that loving people is not simply about how we feel towards them; it is also about how we treat them. It means respecting their dignity, showing kindness, listening without being judgemental and treating everyone as someone valuable to God. We should never make people feel inferior because they do not share our beliefs or have not yet experienced the salvation we enjoy.

Unfortunately, Christians can sometimes become so focused on people’s weaknesses, mistakes and sinful lifestyles that they forget to show them the love of God. However, Jesus never treated people with contempt. He showed compassion to the rejected, reached out to the overlooked and welcomed those whom society had pushed aside. He recognised their worth and demonstrated the Father’s love towards them.

God did not wait for us to become perfect before He loved us. While we were still sinners, Christ died for us (Romans 5:8). His love reached us when we needed Him most. Therefore, we should extend that same grace, patience and compassion to others.

This does not mean approving of everything people do. Rather, it means loving people while recognising that everyone needs God’s grace. We can stand for what is right without becoming harsh, proud or judgemental. Our lives should reflect both the truth of God’s Word and the compassion of His heart.

Let us also remember that loving the brotherhood means genuinely caring for our fellow Christians. We should encourage one another, support those going through difficult times, celebrate one another’s victories and refuse to allow jealousy, bitterness or division to destroy our relationships.

Our love should be visible, not merely spoken. When people experience genuine kindness, respect and compassion through us, they get a glimpse of the character of Jesus. Such love can soften hearts, build trust and create opportunities for us to share the Gospel.

Let us make a conscious decision to honour everyone, love our fellow believers and show compassion to those who have not yet come to know Christ. We may never know how much a simple act of kindness could mean to someone or how God could use it to change their life. Remember: God’s love flowing through you may be the very thing that helps someone discover Jesus.
Amen.
