Philippians 1:6 “Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ”
Life can sometimes feel unfinished.
We look at our flaws, our setbacks, our unanswered prayers, and the distance between where we are and where we want to be. In those moments, it’s easy to wonder if we’re making any real progress at all. Yet the words of the Apostle Paul offer a powerful reminder:
“And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.” (Philippians 1:6)
Paul wrote these words while sitting in a Roman prison because of his faith in Christ. Despite his circumstances, his heart overflowed with confidence: not in human ability, but in God’s faithfulness. He knew that what God begins, He never abandons.
Take a moment to consider your own story. Who gave your life? Who formed the intricate details of your personality, your gifts, your passions, and your purpose? Who placed you in this generation, with its unique opportunities and challenges?
The answer is simple: God.
Long before you drew your first breath, God knew you. Before you had dreams, goals, or plans of your own, He already had loving intentions for your life. Even when you were unaware of His presence, He was at work behind the scenes: guiding, shaping, protecting, and drawing you toward Himself.
Nothing about your existence is accidental. You are not here by chance, and your life is not a random collection of events. God is intentional in all that He does, and His purposes are woven throughout your journey.
Perhaps you feel unfinished today. Maybe there are areas of your life where growth seems slow or where change feels impossible. The good news is that God is not discouraged by unfinished work. He sees the completed masterpiece even while we are still under construction.
The same God who started His work in you continues to work each day faithfully. Through every victory and every struggle, every season of joy and every season of waiting, He is shaping you into the person He created you to be.
And one day, when Christ returns, His work will be fully revealed and perfectly complete. Until then, let us trust the One who began this journey. Let us cooperate with His work in our hearts, reflect His goodness in our daily lives, and rest in the assurance that He never leaves His work unfinished. God started it, and He will finish it.
Amen.
