A PLACE AT GOD’S TABLE: WHY KINDNESS MATTERS

Ephesians 4:32 “Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.”  (NIV)

In a world that often celebrates achievement, influence, and personal success, one quality still has the power to transform lives in extraordinary ways: kindness. It may seem simple, but kindness reflects the very heart of God. Through a smile, a helping hand, an encouraging word, or a listening ear, we can point people to Jesus in ways that sermons alone sometimes cannot.

God created us to live passionately and purposefully. We were never meant to journey through life alone. Heaven and earth work together as God’s people embrace His love and share it with others. Every act of kindness becomes an opportunity to demonstrate God’s goodness and remind someone that they are seen, valued, and loved.

When we choose kindness, we become vessels through which God’s grace flows. A small gesture can brighten someone’s darkest day. A word of encouragement can restore hope. An act of generosity can open a heart to the message of Christ. The beauty of kindness is that it often leaves a lasting impact far beyond what we can see.

As seasons of gratitude approach, many of us look forward to gathering around tables filled with delicious food, warm conversations, and cherished memories. The aroma of a holiday meal, the laughter of family, and the abundance of blessings remind us of God’s provision. Yet there is an even greater table prepared for us; a place at God’s table of blessing.

Many believers live unaware of the incredible invitation they have received. Through Jesus Christ, God has welcomed us into His family. We are not distant guests hoping for acceptance; we are beloved children with a reserved seat at His table. At His table, there is grace for our failures, strength for our struggles, peace for our worries, and provision for our needs.

God’s blessings are not merely material possessions. They include His presence, His promises, His guidance, and His unfailing love. When we understand our place at His table, gratitude naturally overflows from our hearts. Instead of striving to earn God’s approval, we learn to rest in the finished work of Christ and receive the blessings He freely offers.

This understanding changes the way we treat others. Those who have experienced God’s kindness become eager to extend that same kindness to the people around them. We no longer give because we have to; we give because we have received so much ourselves. We serve because we have been served by our Saviour. We love because He first loved us.

Today, remember that you have a place at God’s table. You are welcomed, accepted, and deeply loved. Let that truth fill your heart with gratitude and inspire you to share His kindness wherever you go. Every act of kindness becomes an invitation for others to experience the goodness of God. As you walk in His love, you become a living reminder that kindness truly matters.
Amen.
