NKJV Psalm 119:130 – The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple.
CEV Psalm 119:130 – Understanding your word brings light to the minds of ordinary people.
The Bible is all about Jesus. He is the Word made flesh (John 1:14). So if we want to be Jesus People, we have to be Bible people. Consider with me what Psalm 119 Says, in extensive and exacting detail, about the benefits, importance, and purpose of God’s Word, all the while keeping in mind that Jesus is the embodiment of all that is contained in the Word.
GOD’S WORD THROUGH JESUS (Psalm 119):
keeps us from sin and keeps our way pure (vv. 3, 9, 11, 133)
provides liberty and freedom from affliction and oppression (v. 45)
gives strength, fulfils our longing, and sets our heart free (vv. 20, 28,
32, 92, 131)
is our help, gives hope and peace, and renews our trust (vv. 114, 147, 165, 175)
is our comfort in suffering and is our delight (vv. 16, 24, 35, 50, 52, 76–77, 143)
gives us a sound heart, an anchor, and a compass for life (vv. 50, 59, 80)
gives us reason to praise and lift our hands, causing our heart to rejoice (vv. 48, 54, 164, 171)
is where we find mercies and see His salvation (vv. 41, 58)
is our teacher, instructor, and a lamp to our feet, giving wisdom (vv. 98–100, 102, 105, 130, 133)
is an answer for our accuser and frees us from reproach (vv. 6, 42)
is true, righteous, good, wonderful, trustworthy, faithful, and pure
(vv. 30, 39, 42, 75, 86, 128–129, 137, 140, 172)
Next time you’re tempted to let your Bible sit on the shelf, think of Psalm 119 and how Jesus is all that the Word Says He is and does.
