BELIEVING IN THE GOODNESS OF GOD

Psalm 27:13 (NKJV) “I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living.”

There are seasons when believing God is good comes naturally. When prayers are answered, doors open, relationships flourish, and life seems to be moving in the right direction, gratitude flows easily. But what happens when the answer is delayed, the door remains closed, or circumstances become difficult?

That is when our confidence in God’s goodness is truly tested.

God’s goodness is not determined by how comfortable our circumstances are. God remains good when life is painful, when we are waiting, and even when we cannot understand what He is doing. His character does not change simply because our situation has changed.

Sometimes we measure God’s goodness by what we receive from Him. We think, “If God is good, everything should work out the way I want.” But genuine faith goes deeper. It learns to say, “Even when I cannot see the outcome, I trust the One who holds my future.”

God’s goodness is an expression of His love. He is not looking for opportunities to harm, abandon, or disappoint us. His heart is toward us, and He desires that our lives ultimately reflect His love, grace, wisdom, and purpose.

This does not mean that everything that happens to us is good. We live in a broken world, and difficult things happen. But God can meet us in those difficult places and bring something meaningful out of them. A painful chapter does not have to become the conclusion of our story.

Believing in God’s goodness also changes the way we live each day. Instead of constantly expecting the worst, we can approach tomorrow with hope. Instead of allowing disappointment to convince us that God has forgotten us, we can continue praying. Instead of comparing our journey with someone else’s, we can trust that God is working in our own lives according to His wisdom and timing.

Practically, this means choosing gratitude even before everything is resolved. It means remembering previous occasions when God sustained us. It means bringing our fears honestly to Him rather than allowing them to control our decisions. It means looking for evidence of His grace in ordinary things—a new morning, a helping hand, an unexpected opportunity, a moment of peace, or the strength to keep going.

Most importantly, believing in God’s goodness means refusing to let temporary circumstances give us a permanent opinion about God.

You may not understand what is happening today. You may still be waiting for an answer. You may even be walking through a season you never expected. But you can continue to trust God’s heart.

God’s goodness is greater than your present circumstances. Keep believing, keep trusting, and keep expecting His grace to meet you along the way.
Amen
