BUILD YOUR LIFE ON GOD’S WORD

(NKJV) Matthew 7: 24-25 “Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock 25 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.”

(CEV) Matthew 7: 24-25 “Anyone who hears and obeys these teachings of mine is like a wise person who built a house on solid rock. 25 Rain poured down, rivers flooded, and winds beat against that house. But it was built on solid rock, and so it did not fall.”

To conclude His sermon on the mount, Jesus Reminds His audience to remember one simple rule: Listen and obey “these words of mine.” He Encourages us to build our live upon the rock of His Word. Those who serve in military and law enforcement are extremely familiar with the principle of listen and obey, for the sake of their safety and the protection of others depends on it. The parable illustrates the importance of building one’s life on obedience to the teachings and example of Jesus.

To build our house upon a rock means grounding ourselves in Christ every day and making wise choices through the Guidance of His Spirit before the storms of life come. Only in Him can we be assured that our foundation is rock-solid. Lord Jesus, we rely on you completely to survive the storms of life. This teaches us that when we listen to God, we will be saved from disasters as opposed to when we turn away from him and have something that is important be destroyed.

“Today we’re going to sing a new song called ‘Build My Life’, but before we do, I’d like to read a verse to you. 1 Corinthians 3:11 says this; This song is all about ‘the foundation that we build our lives upon, and there is no greater foundation than Jesus Christ.’ When one practically applies the word of God, this means that a person will go to the Bible and locate a Scripture or scriptures pertaining to the situation they are going through. They will then study that scripture.

James; 1 21 – Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.

One Person who build his on  the was David, who later became King David; David had seven brothers. When it came time to pick a king to replace Saul, Samuel thought any one of them would make a better king than David. But God rejected all seven. Why? Because: ‘The Lord has not chosen any of these.’ 1 Samuel 16:10 NLT – we can learn 3 important lesson here:

1)They had the looks but not the spiritual core. God explained to Samuel, ‘People judge by outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart’ (1 Samuel 16:7 NLT). David’s spiritual core was formed by years spent with God. His heart’s cry was, ‘As a deer gets thirsty for streams of water, I truly am thirsty for you, my God’ (Psalm 42:1 CEV).

2)They had no personal experiences with God to fall back on. The lion and the bear were big and Goliath was bigger, yet David wasn’t intimidated. David boldly declared that ‘The Lord, who delivered me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear, he will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine’ (1 Samuel 17:37 NKJV). There are no insignificant battles. The little ones equip you for the big ones that shape your destiny, so stand on your ‘God experiences’. How you respond in a crisis is determined by the experiences you have had with God.

3)David’s brothers were easily influenced by others. They allowed the fears of those around them to erode their Faith. Fear is contagious; if you listen to it long enough, you will get infected. You shouldn’t be isolated from the world, but you must be insulated against its negative influences. Listening to Goliath frightened David’s brothers, but it didn’t frighten David.

Stop trying to build your life on your plans & programs because they will fall, but let God in your life and He will never fail you. Who are you listening to today? Get God’s opinion and build your life upon it.
