2 Corinthians 12:9 “And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.”
There are moments in life when we desperately want God to change our situation. We pray, we wait, and we hope for relief. Whether it’s emotional pain, physical suffering, unanswered questions, or ongoing struggles, we often ask God to take the burden away. Yet sometimes, instead of removing the hardship, God responds differently, by reminding us that His grace is enough.
The apostle Paul understood this deeply. In 2 Corinthians 12, Paul speaks honestly about a painful struggle he faced. Three times he pleaded with God to remove it, but God’s answer was not immediate deliverance. Instead, God said, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness.”
At first glance, that response may seem difficult to accept. We naturally want strength without weakness, victory without struggle, and comfort without pain. But God often works differently than we expect. He does not always take us out of difficult situations immediately; sometimes He walks with us through them so we can experience His presence more deeply than ever before.
Grace is more than kindness or encouragement. It is God’s sustaining presence, His strength working in us when our own strength runs out. God was reminding Paul that he would not face his suffering alone. The same God who called him would also carry him.
This changes the way we view weakness. We usually see weakness as something to hide, something embarrassing or limiting. But in God’s hands, weakness becomes a place where His power shines the brightest. When we finally admit that we cannot do everything on our own, we make room for God to move in ways we never imagined.
Paul came to understand this truth so deeply that he stopped focusing only on what he lacked and started celebrating the strength God provided through his weakness. He realised that every victory, every moment of endurance, and every life he impacted was evidence of God working through him.
The same is true for us today. Sometimes the miracle is not that the storm disappears immediately, but that God gives us peace, strength, wisdom, and endurance while we walk through it. What once felt like a limitation can become a testimony of God’s faithfulness.
So if you are carrying a burden today, do not lose heart. God sees your struggle. He knows your pain, and He has not abandoned you. His grace is still sufficient. His strength is still available. And even in moments when you feel weak, God can reveal His power in your life.
Draw near to Him today. Bring Him your fears, frustrations, and unanswered questions. You may discover that the very place where you feel weakest becomes the place where God strengthens you the most.
Amen.
