(NKJV): “I am the LORD: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images.”
(NIV): “I am the Lord; that is my name! I will not yield my glory to another or my praise to idols.”
(CEV): “My name is the Lord! I won’t let idols or humans share my glory and praise.
God Will Not Give His Glory to another because All Glory, Honour, and praise belong to Him alone. He Will Not Allow His Works to be attributed to a false god, which is “nothing at all in the world” (1 Corinthians 8:4). His Word about Him Saying that He Said that “he’s a jealous God” (Exodus 20:2-5) and that He Also Says that He “will not share His Glory with carved idols” (Isaiah 42:8) – not Mary or the Saints, who are dead and have no supernatural powers, so they cannot hear your prayers or protect you, nor statues.
“Why Is God a Jealous God?” = Because God is Without sin, God’s jealousy in Response to idolatry is Righteous and Holy. God is jealous for His Relationship with His People because He Passionately Loves them and Does Not Want them to be destroyed by idolatry. In Describing Himself as jealous, God Contrasts His Passion and Love for His People to the iniquity of those who hate Him by chasing after false gods and idols.
Also, God Will Not Allow humans to take credit for what He Does, as if it were our own skill, wisdom, and power that deserve the praise. God’s Glory is His Honour, His Splendour, and His Dignity, and He Will Not Share it with anyone, ie; God Will Not Share His Glory with anybody else & He Will not Put up with prideful persons, eg Lucifer. Humility is one of number one Christian virtue.
God Will Not Give His Glory to another because it is immoral for someone to take credit for something he or she did not do, eg; attempting to take credit for what God Has Done, it Is wrong. You have to remove all other sources (relatives, friends, etc), because God Does Not Want to Share His Glory with nobody – TRUST ONLY IN THE LORD.
How will you feel if after working so hard in your office to help secure a major contract at your work place, another person who did nothing gets all the commendation, reward, and promotion? I am sure you will not be happy because the credit due you has been given to another person.
Even as human beings, we do not want to share our ‘praise’ with anyone who did not contribute to our success. How much more, the Most High God Who Created the entire universe on His own. God Will Not Share His Glory with anyone or thing.
Beloved, as human beings, we are heavily dependent on God and His Works. In fact, God Does a lot for every human being on Earth, especially the unbeliever. Therefore, it is only appropriate that as we live on Earth, we give Him the due Honour and praise. It is only ignorance that will cause a godless person to rise with all disrespect and say that there is no God.
People going about in pride as though they are self-made, miserably fail to realise that if not for God, they would be dead and buried a long time ago. Such people take the Glory that belongs to God for themselves. If you worship idols or seek to honour people more than God, you are attempting to share God’s Glory with idols.
I want to challenge you today; give God the reverence and Honour due Him. Let your praise go to God alone because it is by His Works in your life that you have been Preserved and Blessed. Beloved, God Does Not Share His Glory with any man or idol.
God will not give His Glory to another. He is “The Blessed and only Ruler, The King of kings and Lord of lords, Who alone is Immortal and Who lives in unapproachable Light. God Will Not Give His glory to another, which Makes Jesus’ High Priestly Prayer all The More Astounding.
There are some worldly things that can seem innocent & so harmless that we might not realize that they are controlling us. These may even be shaping our thoughts and feelings. They can become obsessions, and even develop into idols. Things that might be leading us into sin.
Anything can become an idol eg; work, position, children hobby, education = Anything that takes The First Place in your life is an idol;
Question? Is there any such thing in my life, ask yourself?
1 Jn 5; 21 (Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen – ‘Idols’ here does not refer to all those gods that people bow down to, but it refers to anything that takes The Place of God in your life, eg; your job, your money, etc
Heavenly Father,
All Glory, Honour, and Power Belong to You. Please Forgive me for the times I dishonoured You. Take all the praise that will ever proceed from my lips and my life,
In Jesus’ Name, Amen
