YOUR WORDS ARE VERY POWERFUL

(NKJV): Proverbs 15:1-4 “A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger. The tongue of the wise useth knowledge aright: but the mouth of fools poureth out foolishness. The eyes of the LORD are in every place, beholding the evil and the good. A wholesome tongue is a tree of life: but perverseness therein is a breach in the spirit.”

(CEV): Proverbs 15:1-4 “A kind answer soothes angry feelings, but harsh words stir them up. Words of wisdom come from the wise, but fools speak foolishness. The Lord sees everything, whether good or bad. Kind words are good medicine, but deceitful words can really hurt”.

here are some few related verses of note

  • Matt 12: 36-37 – The enemy is waiting on your words so he can go to work (and do some evil thing against  you), likewise God is waiting on you to speak. That is why The Bible  Says don’t speak idle words – idle word = non-productive word (Satan is waiting for your words, so say only What God Says).
  • Prov 15: 23 – do not respond badly to ugliness – use words that are not thoughtless
  • Prov 16: 24 – that’s how powerful your words are, they can change the atmosphere just by the pleasant words you speak.
  • Prov 21: 23 – if you keep Watching what you say, can safe you a lot of trouble.

As Christians, we are supposed to live by Faith as our lifestyle: and ‘the foundation principle on living by Faith is to the power of your words’; quit, talking unbelief, doubt, sickness & diseases, and start talking WORD. A life of Faith is making The Word of Word of God Final Authority in your life – Take God at His WORD, because God  Cannot lie. If you are going to live a life of Faith then you have to watch the words you say – you cannot  talk anyhow, because your words will snare  you – you are trapped by your own words. (Prov 6: 2 – Thou art snared with the words of thy mouth, thou art taken with the words of thy mouth)

Take responsibility for (or be careful of) the words that come of your mouth. Don’t say things like:
‘My feet are hurting me’
‘I am dying to go wee (bathroom)’
‘I’m sick and tired’ – no wonder you are always sick & tired
Don’t say something ‘stupid’ and turn  around and say, ‘Oh no, I  didn’t mean it’ (or ‘it was a joke’), but Mk 11: 24 Says ‘ye shall have what you say’ (not ‘ye shall have what you mean.)

Words are invisible, yet they are the main channels by which knowledge, understanding and perception are communicated. Our Heavenly Father Wants us to learn today, how powerful our words are. Your words being powerful implies, they have the potential to cause change in the affairs of your life. From our reference text, we see the Wiseman in Proverbs drawing our attention to some things we need to bear in mind anytime we want to speak. This lesson has become necessary because, there are quite a number of us God-fearing Christians who simply do not know how to talk. Anytime some of us speak, we end up worsening the plight of people we intend to help.

Firstly, the words that come out of our mouths can either stir up wrath or quench anger. This depends on how gentle or harsh we may speak. In other words, in our communication, it is not only the words we use that matter, but more so, how we say it. We must learn to speak with all gentility and love. The words you say tell whether you are a believer or not, they also tell your character.

Secondly, the words that proceed from our mouths reveal whether we are wise or otherwise. Show me a man who speaks without caution as to how people may feel, and I will show you a man without wisdom. Our use of knowledge; knowing exactly what to say at the right time, is a real test of wisdom. It takes wisdom to know whether to be silent or speak.

We need always to be conscious of the truth that the eyes of The LORD are upon us, Watching all we do and say. Therefore, our speeches ought to be like a life-giving tree; not one that worsens people’s plight. When people speak to you, they should leave you with comfort and hope (not condemnation)

 Pray this;

Heavenly Father, please grant me The Grace to ensure that ‘…no unpleasant words come out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers’. (Ephesians 4:29). Bless me LORD,

in Jesus’ Name, Amen.
